Route: N ridge
Posted On: 10/26/2024, By: d_baker
Info: Not much snow and didn't need traction. Some snow on ridge to summit, but it wasn't too difficult. Ridge proper or ascender's right (W side) of ridge worked fine. I downloaded the gpx track from this site's route description for Huron's SW Slopes route to use as a reference getting through the trees. However the trail/old road is fairly easy to follow. Once out of trees, we traversed across the talus, slightly higher than Bill M's SW Slope route for Huron. It worked ok. On descent, we somewhat stayed on gpx track back to the trees. The SSM Slopes route essentially stays below the talus at the edge of the willows. Both routes work fine to get to the saddle of Horon and '486.

Route: Via Apostle Basin + UN 13513 + Huron
Posted On: 7/29/2024, By: wintersage
Info: Followed captainsuburbia's exact route from the Huron Peak trailhead to Apostle basin and up the gully that brings you to the saddle of North Apostle and UN 13513. From there, it was a chossy sustained class 2+/3 scramble to UN 13513 sticking to the ridge proper. There was one section where descending the ridge a bit to the climber's left made life easier but otherwise the ridge was often the best choice. From UN 13513 we took the grassy ledges on the climber's right to reach the "Emerald Ledge" before ascending back to the ridge to summit UN 13486. For this section, these ledges made the climb much easier than sticking to the ridge proper albeit with some decent exposure. Aside from the loose rock, the ridge to Huron was straightforward and cruiser. As captainsuburbia's trip report, there is a chossy bail out gully before ascending Huron if needed. Perfect bluebird day for this scramble with winds only picking up during our ascent/descent of Huron.

Route: SW gully ski
Posted On: 5/30/2024, By: SnowAlien
Info: After orphaning the peak (back then unranked) at the end of the long scrambly ridge run from Pear, I decided to combine it with 13,513 as ski descents as they are next to each other. From my base camp in the Apostles basin (about a mile past the Huron TH) I skinned up through the trees in the small basin on the west side below the peaks. Snow was supportive and for once I made decent time. I started up the prominent SW gully as it was just getting into the sun. The ridge is heavily corniced right now. I kept the skins on for the summit ridge, but took them off just before dropping into the gully. There's already quite a bit of wet slide debris in the gut, but I was able to stay skiers right (underneath very large cornices btw) on nice snow. The 600 ft descent went fast and I skied right to the base of the NW couloir of 13,513, which was just coming into the sun and transitioned back to booting.

Route: With 13517 and Huron
Posted On: 8/17/2023, By: Dobsons
Info: Did 13517 and 13427 with Ian from Clohesy lake. Followed the route on the Cooney's website. My friend has a stock Tacoma and the clear creek crossing was fine but the step out after the creek is ugly and sure looks like it wants to damage some cars so we parked at the creek instead. It seems like a really stout 4x4 vehicle is needed for the first part of that road or at least the guts to risk banging up your car. The route goes very good. The avalanche gully ascent into the 13472/13517 basin was not bad and we found a great route about 50 years left of the avalanche gully with steep trees but no deadfall or willows. Both climbs can definitely be kept 2+ and the solid rock and grass ledges whenever you need them were great and the traverse around the rugged rib at 12600 was very straight forward. The ridge itself looks very spicy. Traversed over the Huron after 13472 and descended Huron's Nolan route which just continues to give me more and more respect for people who can pull off that route. 13.7 miles on the day from Clear creek crossing at Rockdale. Attached a strava link if you want to see a class 2+ route that we did for these 2 peaks. https://www.strava.com/activities/9662020893

Route: Northwest Slopes
Posted On: 6/12/2023, By: supranihilest
Info: Reminder: this peak is ranked by LiDAR. Wore trail runners to the Apostle Basin/Lake Ann split then snowy enough for boots. Snow in the trees was awful, plus there's tons of deadfall. Snow above treeline was great. Went as high as possible on snow before switching back to trail runners. Summit scramble is a little tedious, plenty of loose rock. Some snow and ice up high still but all avoidable. Watch out for verglas, as a slip up high could be bad. Class 2+ to Class 3 scrambling along the ridge. Might as well just wait til this melts out, below treeline postholing added several hours to my day. No need for any particular snow gear including flotation, but waterproof footwear in the trees (or a change of footwear) is nice.

Route: Northwest Slopes
Posted On: 5/20/2023, By: supranihilest
Info: Garbage snow today. Rained til at least 4am, and was 40 degrees at 3:40 when I started. Patchy snow along Huron 4WD road, drivable only .2 miles up from the sign. Continuous snow from 4WD trailhead and beyond on Lake Ann trail. I only went a tenth of a mile past the wilderness boundary before turning around since snow the entire day was wet, heavy, and postholey as hell. I ended up averaging something pitiful like 1.7mph moving pace and was re-postholing in my postholes on the way back, all before 7:30am. Awesome.
