Route: Anderson and Petroleum lakes TH
Posted On: 7/28/2024, By: IHikeLikeAGirl
Info: Did Petroleum first, then followed the ridge to Anderson. There was a use trail for most of the ridge, from P to A. The endless bumps along the ridge got annoying, but they weren't bad. Anderson had a fine summit register holder and a writing implement, but no register...so...maybe bring paper, if you care about that. No snow, to speak of, wildflowers were amazing. Drove all the way to the TH. It wasn't that bad, just bumpy, slow going, and busy. Gorgeous day!

Route: Petroleum link up and ski
Posted On: 6/17/2024, By: VeraUndertow
Info: Started this morning at 4 AM with a nice cold creek crossing before heading up Anderson/Petroleum lakes trail. Trail was easy to follow in the dark until around 11,500 ft where it was covered in snow banks so I kind of just found the path of least resistance. Trees were nice and open and snow banks were scattered enough to mostly avoid until above treeline where the snow was supportive. I put on my ski boots and crampons at 4:50 AM and climbed a snow line up the lower headwall that take you to petroleum lake. From there I skinned following the snow to the base of the east couloir on Petroleum, which is pretty short, just 500 ft of moderate snow, until the top out which was a 60+ degree cornice end for about 10 feet. Summited at 6:50 AM and dropped in at 7:10 to some nice corn before traversing over to the base of a mellow snow climb that faces north from the shortest bump on the ridge to Anderson, closest to petroleum. I climbed about 600 ft of snow then walked along a dry and rocky ridge the rest of the way over to Anderson. Made the Anderson summit at 9:00 AM and dropped in to a runnel and sun cup filled Anderson couloir which was more firm then I was expecting. I couldn't really see the coulie on my route but I guess it's inset enough it doesn't really get sun until later in the morning. Was able to ski down with some minor sidestepping to 11,500 feet and jump back on to the trail pretty easily and was back at my truck at 10:20.

Route: Tellurium Creek
Posted On: 9/25/2023, By: eskermo
Info: Still dry from the Taylor Creek side, including traverse to Petroleum. Couldn't see entire route, but appears mostly snow free from Lincoln Gulch side as well. Drove .4 miles up the Tellurium Ck Rd in a Subaru to the 10,000 contour, but that was dumb. Only saved 130' and less than a mile RT. Really rocky. A 4Runner/Tacoma type vehicle with beefy tires would probably not have issues getting to the upper TH at 10,600' if you aren't intimidated by the basketball size rocks. Previous reports of a ridiculously annoying-to-walk road up to the Enterprise Mine due to someone digging up the road are still valid. Left the road at the 12,500' contour where the road turns NW, and followed the gully to the ridge. Zero snow on the ridge between peaks. Super chill terrain, never felt I needed to bust out the helmet. Left Petroleum summit going down N ridge for a minute or two before busting W down easy tundra. Picked up a trail that wrapped S, then SE around Petroleum's flanks to dump you back into a basin that leads due S back to the Upper TH. The trail is intermittent, but route finding and suffering is minimal. Anderson register had no paper. Petroleum register in good shape. 10.2 miles, 4380' RT. Add 0.8 and 130' starting at the bottom of the road.

Route: from Anderson/Petroleum Lakes TH
Posted On: 8/9/2023, By: ScottLovesRMNP
Info: Road takes an hour from Hwy 82 in a 4-Runner. Just a little water in the last couple miles, but otherwise OK. Went straight up the grassy slope from Anderson Lake to reach the Anderson-Petroleum ridge, which is long. No snow on the route. Anderson summit register needs fresh paper. Overall, this is a great route, and a fairly quick up-and-down. Enjoy!

Route: North couloir to east ridge
Posted On: 7/1/2023, By: blazintoes
Info: Biked up Lincoln creek ~10 miles because if you think youll get a camping or parking spot anywhere on a weekend, you wont. This is the busiest area Ive ever seen for camping. My friend Andrew said that if I bike and after I cross the creek, youre gonna get wet. Thats what she said. I managed to keep my bike somewhat dry but you have to cross Lincoln Creek to get to the Anderson TH. I brought water shoes and pulled up my pant leg to cross. Hike 1.5 miles to the Anderson Lake on a good trail then willow bash CCW and pick a north face couloir. They are all in! I saw ski tracks. I picked the left side coolie and 1000 later I was headlong on the east ridge. This scramble is legit and I was surprised how difficult it was to climb because of the looseness. From the top of the couloir to the summit was only .17 miles but it was full on climbing on choss. The summit was sunny peaceful and Anderson sure is a handsome looking peak. If youve done Grizzly As east ridge direct from Graham Gulch then Anderson is its sinister brother. I descended the entire east ridge then glissaded back to the lake, across the creek and biked back to my car. Another bicentennial. Check.

Route: Tellurium Rd
Posted On: 7/5/2022, By: B_2
Info: Combo with Petroleum: loop from Enterprise Mine “road” then bushwhack back from Petroleum. It is not worth it to drive up Tellurium Rd for more than a couple hundred yards. You can walk faster and 4WD would be supremely ew on the loose smooth baseball-y to basketball-y rocks. Someone with a high level OCD dug pits/mounds on the entire mine road. This is mildly annoying to walk up but still a pretty easy and pleasant approach. Scree is level 10 gross to gain the ridge if you go to the very top of the mine road. Save yourselves and leave the road a few switchbacks before the top and hop on the obvious easier grassy slope to the east.

Route: Anderson Couloir

Info: Couloir was in, snow was perfect for climbing. Totally stable. I think it will be in for a while longer. Then we took the ridge over to Petroleum peak.

Route: From Tellurium Creek
Posted On: 7/28/2021, By: CoHi591
Info: Parked at the junction of 742 and Tellurium Creek road, which is 6 miles past the Dinner Station CG. Parking for a few vehicles and good camping just a little ways down the road before it gets rough. I completely blew by the turn off from Tellurium Creek road onto the "road" that you're supposed to take up the peaks. I'll post a picture below of the turn off. It's very shortly after you pass a nice meadow on your right. The way is easy to follow, but it really isn't much of a road. Came down the same way I went up. Would probably approach these from the other side next time. Everything above treeline was pretty hazy.

Route: via Lincoln Creek
Posted On: 6/30/2020, By: tjf242424
Info: All snow is avoidable from Anderson Lake to Pt 13,105. From there, the ridge is snow free all the way to the summit. The traverse to Petroleum is also dry, as is the descent directly off the Petroleum summit to Petroleum Lake. The gate at Portal Campground was open and I was able to drive all the way to a campsite near Truro Creek (about 1.5 miles past the CG). I could have easily driven all the way to the Anderson/Petroleum TH in our Subaru Outback, but we elected to use the campsite by Truro Creek as our base camp.

Route: N Couloir
Posted On: 7/28/2019, By: KJMc
Info: Climb/skied a North facing couloir from Anderson lake. I was at the base of the couloir at about 5:00 am. Temps stayed above freezing overnight and stayed cloudy most of the night, yet the snow was still very supportive before dawn and continuous from the bottom of the couloir at 12,200' up to the col at 13,400'. A large overhanging cornice waits for you at the top, I exited to the left. Once up to the summit ridge, a nice grass/scree ramp will take you to the summit without any snow. Sketchy drop in around the cornice at 7:15 am, snow quality was good, but lower half is a maze of rock debris to navigate. Great snow route for July, should stay in for a little while...
