Route: From South Crestone Lake Posted On: 5/31/2023, By: HikerGuy Info: South Crestone Trail is dry until the lake where there are a few short sections of supportive snow. Slope above lake is dry to summit. There is some minor deadfall on the trail up, but all easily bypassed. No issue with creek crossings. Wore trail runners and my feet stayed dry! Lake is still covered with ice, but it will not last long. No bugs yet. Wildflowers are starting to bloom below tree line. 10.25 miles and 4,272 feet roundtrip. Total traveling time was 5h 34m. |

Route: FRom South Crestone Lake Posted On: 11/2/2022, By: desertdog Info: Mostly snow free. The slope from the lake to the ridge is dry. This slope gets a lot of sun so it "may" melt off again after this Thursday's snow. |

Route: From Mount Adams Posted On: 6/21/2020, By: supranihilest Info: We descended the ridge from Adams and found tons of scree everywhere, by far the most of any part of the day except the garbage slope above Horn Lake. There's some absolutely massive slabs under the scree and we scrambled down broken tiers of these slabs as we went. Mostly Easy Class 3 scrambling, nothing too difficult. This is a ridge with a lot of elevation loss and re-gain, and was really tough going back up (our third summit of Adams that day) at the end of the day. Be very careful of the loose rock on this ridge. It's easier than it looks but looks can be deceiving, especially if tired. |
