"Leaning South Peak"

Info: Descended from Cuatro Peak on steep but stable talus, and beyond there the terrain is mostly rolling tundra. It was almost entirely dry with all snow avoidable. However the ups and downs were a bit more than I expected. The last saddle before Leaning South had what looked like small cliffs on its north side, so I dropped east a bit before connecting with a game trail that continued north toward the summit. I had planned on continuing to Trinchera but a storm was on its way so I headed back toward Cuatro and Maxwell. Summit register is a glass jar and all the paper within is dry.

Info: From FSR 436 took the northeast slopes to Trinchera Peak and then to both Leaning Peaks. Snow was continuous starting at 12,000 feet when we left the road. 2 to 4 inches covered most of the route and there was very little melting because of low clouds that stuck around.

Info: Trinchera > Leaning North > Leaning South. Summer conditions. I had intentions of going to Cuatro but the weather started to turn so I descended from Leaning South's ridge rather than go back over Trinchera. This added extra mileage and gain but was the most fun of this loop. There is some nice scrambling and I ran into a goat herd. Once I made it to treeline, the rain started. The road out was turning into a muddy mess. Summit register is falling apart.

Route: Trinchera to Maxwell Traverse

Info: Loop involving Purgatory Campground, Trinchera road, Trinchera to Maxwell traverse, and Maxwell ridge back to Purgatory Campground is almost entirely free of snow. Only had to cross one small snow field just below the summit of Trinchera, and microspikes/poles were more than sufficient. You can easily bypass the cornice on the Trinchera summit just to its north/hiker's right when ascending. It's probably easier to bypass the remaining snow on the ridge when traveling Maxwell->Trinchera than Trinchera->Maxwell, because the clear route is much more obvious going south to north.
