10/13/2024 Route: From FS Rd 505.1A Posted On: 10/13/2024, By: IHikeLikeAGirl Info: Parked at a very small pullout (37.91497, -106.99334) on a single laned, rough, road: and had a pleasant hike. Little deadfall, not heavily treed. Above 11,600 it was mostly tundra. Found easy access to the ridge/mesa to the summit. Beautiful day...enjoyed the gentle 5.8 mi hike (couple steep sections, but they were shortish). The drive kinda sucked though...see below. I was picking up 2 orphans (13166 and 13030). Tried to get to my 13030 starting point from W. Willow Creek side (where I camped the night before for 13166), but hit a lengthy, steep, loose rock, section that my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk kept spinning out on. My Cherokee does ok on most steep sections, but the length of the up, combined with the loose rock was too much for my old girl (I saw a 4 runner make it tho). I took 2 runs at it and headed down and around. The route I took to FS Rd 505.1A ended up being a lengthy 3 out of 5 4wd rd (akin to Hermit Pass Rd and Nellie Creek Rd) but with better reprieves between obstacles. Either way, the road is 1 lane with few pullouts. I was thankful that I missed rush hour on my route. Other than the drive, it was a resplendent stroll up 13030 |

5/28/2021 Route: Spring Creek Pass Posted On: 5/28/2021, By: ScottLovesRMNP Info: From the unnamed, unranked peak sitting between 13,510 and 13,020C, a sizable, broad cornice makes easy passage impossible. I suspect it will stay that way for several weeks. I didn't try it. Note: you are miles and miles from the road at this point. This hike is not recommended except with excellent weather as you will be exposed for many hours (80-90% of the hike). Also, it was quite grueling going uphill on the way back — even mildly — after 4 summits and now that the snow was soft in the afternoon. Snowshoes mandatory. While Snow Mesa is up and down, you will notice the “up” parts especially, after your long day bagging the peaks! |

9/2/2019 Route: Via Point 13,510 A Posted On: 9/3/2019, By: supranihilest Info: There's a talus-laden sub-summit of Point 13,510 A to climb over en route to 13,020 C. It descends steeply on the east side. Once you're on top of 13,020 C the easiest way to get back to the Colorado Trail is to reascend the talus-laden sub-summit and then descend grassy Class 1 slopes to the trail. |
