Route: South Slopes
Posted On: 10/1/2024, By: Kiefer
Info: Despite it being so late in the summer (basically fall), there's still plenty of water to be had on American Flats. Mornings are cold and all tarns are iced over/melted by afternoon. Snow will be sticking soon. There are social and game trails to follow to the saddle with Dragon Back & 12,917'. Route is cross-country and its obvious where to go once at the pass as the summit of Blackwall is super close. I left a new register.

Route: Around from Wildhorse
Posted On: 8/13/2023, By: tdawg012
Info: Beware aggressive sheep dogs. Two of them chased me near the southwest aspect of Wildhorse. The flock of sheep were near the trail. I had already anticipated problems and took a side trail up hill and away from the main trail as I approached. I was a good 500 yards away (and 250ft above) and they still charged. They continued to follow me up a steep hill. I went up a steep gully they couldn't pass.

Route: Engineer Pass
Posted On: 7/7/2023, By: JasonKline
Info: We did the Engineer Mountain->Darley Mountain->13132->Cow Benchmark->Wildhorse Peak->Blackwall Mountain loop from Engineer Pass as described in https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/tripreport.php?trip=17855 although we took a slightly different route back to Engineer Pass from Blackwall Mountain. There was still patchy snow throughout the route that we occasionally traversed. Most of the snow was flat and inconsequential, and much of it could have been avoided. There was an unavoidable patch on the way up 13132 that had some slope to it, but it was relatively wide and had a flat path on top so you were never close to the edge. One of us did not use microspikes, and the two of us who did use microspikes didn't find them terribly useful on most of the snow due to its softness. None of us took ice axes, but axes might have been nice on the patch below 13132.

Info: No snow but very muddy in the basin between Blackwall and Dragon's Back
