10/15/2022 Route: From Hunchback Pass Posted On: 10/17/2022, By: supranihilest Info: Easy Class 2 route from Hunchback Pass. This route is a geologist or rock nerd's dream with a rainbow of colors and different types of rock. Sunday evening's snow probably left a dusting on Hunchback's southern aspect but it should melt in the coming dry weather. A more direct northern approach from the trailhead would be very snowy. |

7/3/2022 Route: Beartown/Kite Lake Posted On: 7/5/2022, By: kwhit24 Info: We parked a couple hundred feet below Kite Lake where we found a good camp before the last switchback. It rained most of that afternoon and Sunday morning. Weather cleared up so we hiked up to Kite Lake and decided to hike up to the ridge to scout for tomorrow. We saw the weather was holding, decided to follow an easy trail along the ridge to the Hunchback/White Dome saddle, and hiked the last 600' or so up to Hunchback. We should've just used the CT/CDT connector trail from the lake to the ridge to both get up since it was quicker than picking a more direct route. From the Hunchback we made it a loop by heading east and connecting with the nice Hunchback Pass trail back to the road. (4:36 mi; 1,453' gain; 2:22:47 total time) Start at TH 2:45pm; Hunchback Mtn 4:05pm; Back to TH 5:05pm |
