10/12/2024 Route: From Summit Peak TH Posted On: 10/13/2024, By: mikemalick Info: No hint of Winter at all on any of the trio Summit/The Unicorn/Montezuma. Of course late week weather change could change all that. Drive in from Monte Vista side very easy for any vehicle. |

10/21/2023 Route: Treasure Creek loop CCW Posted On: 10/24/2023, By: IHikeLikeAGirl Info: Not sure how long this will last, but 100% summer conditions for Montezuma to Unicorn to Summit Pk. We did find the "trail" and it's decent, but it's steep from the start and there was significant deadfall to get through. After leaving the trail, we continued, on tundra, past the talus slope and we were able to remain on tundra during the steep gain, up to the plateau (before the final east ridge to the summit). East ridge to summit can be kept at Class 2 (see Furthermore's report), by veering to the south side (when needed) and ascending on ledges. If you choose to remain on the ridge, it looks to be more involved, but we didn't ascend that way so, cannot say.... Descended the West ridge/face towards Unicorn. Was not bad, but not great either. Starts off ok, but then it became rather steep and loose. Some scree skiing to be had, but also a lot of rolley talus. P.S. I guess Bill posted somewhere about not trusting google maps...I second that sentiment! Review and verify the route and make sure you have plenty of gas. :) |

7/5/2023 Route: West slopes, from Unicorn Posted On: 7/5/2023, By: SnowAlien Info: 3rd peak of the day. Wind picked up after noon, so had to hike between wind gusts. Short summit stay, descended the east ridge into Treasure creek. Upper mountain is dry, except the very bottom of the narrow East ridge (class 2). Caught another glissade between 12.4k and 12k, makes for a speedy descent and so nice to avoid talus. Waterfalls are unreal atm. Fast drive out via FS 380 - much better option than FS 250. |

7/2/2023 Route: From Unicorn Posted On: 7/5/2023, By: hatterasdunton Info: Small snowfields here and there, especially on the ridge between The Unicorn and Montezuma. All crossable without microspikes or snowshoes if done before noon |

5/31/2022 Route: West and East Ridges Posted On: 6/1/2022, By: supranihilest Info: From "The Unicorn" I took the CDT to Montezuma's west ridge, which is steep, loose talus (Class 2). The east ridge is Class 2+ in spots and narrows quite dramatically, pretty fun. The entire peak is dry as a bone. Once off the peak I descended to Treasure Creek via grassy slopes, crossed to the south side, and made my way down through the forest. Plenty of deadfall in the forest. Be careful if getting close to the creek in the steeper parts, there's large cliffs and waterfalls hidden in there that could impede progress or be dangerous. No snow gear needed. |

5/28/2022 Route: Via The Unicorn Posted On: 5/29/2022, By: HikerGuy Info: Ascended southwest ridge/face, no snow. Descended east ridge, no snow. Took snow free route back down to basin where I had crossed the creek earlier in the morning. Several nice waterfalls along Treasure Creek. If you find a pair of sunglasses, keep them. |
