7/23/2024 Route: East face Posted On: 7/24/2024, By: astranko Info: First peak as part of the Cimmarathon The Sheep Mountain Trail as labeled on USFS 2016 and seen on 2013 unlabeled does mostly exist and makes the ascent out of the trees much nicer. It dies out around treeline, but you're free and clear after that of course. |

7/21/2022 Route: Southeast Slopes Posted On: 7/22/2022, By: supranihilest Info: From Little Cimmaron East trailhead (not the Little Cimarron trailhead, as is commonly stated) it's about 5 miles to the Sheep Mountain trail. Some dead fall and a crossing of the Little Cimarron River which I just waded since I was soaked from dew anyway. The Sheep Mountain trail is hard to find at first but becomes apparent along climber's left edge of an unnamed stream as you ascend. Lots of small switchbacks lead to treeline where the route is then apparent. Stick to grass, the scree is quite unstable. |

6/12/2022 Route: Little Cimmaron Posted On: 6/14/2022, By: Scott P Info: Almost all snow was avoidable. Mosquitoes were out, but it's still a nice hike. The river crossing is slightly challenging if you come from the east trailhead. I was surprised by how scenic the traverse between Sheep Mountain and Peak 13,100 was. The views of the higher San Juans and all the rock pinnacles were spectacular. |

9/2/2020 Route: South Ridge Posted On: 9/2/2020, By: Flyingfish Info: I took a more direct rout up the SE face than just heading toward the saddle. The face is steep but decently solid. Im not sure it was any better then going to the saddle then up the ridge. Footnote on this route is that it is a beast of a day 10+ hours of hiking above treeline without much reprieve. One of the more challenging days I have had on the high peaks |
