7/19/2020 Route: From Rock Lake/Oso/\\\\ Posted On: 7/19/2020, By: supranihilest Info: This CR begins at the Mount Oso/"Mount SoSo" saddle, which can be reached hiking over the pass from Rock Lake and then heading west from Moon Lake. From this saddle we dropped west down super loose scree and talus into Irving Lake basin. Irving has a prominent east ridge which we ascended. The ridge flanks and Irving's faces are all talus and unpleasant. The ridge has multiple options up since it's made up of talus/grass/scrambling. The scrambling ultimately went at about Class 3 and was on mostly solid rock. Test your holds and enjoy the great scrambling. We did not descend our ascent route, instead going over to "North Irving" and descending a crappy gully above the Irving/"North Irving" saddle. If Irving is your only peak here then descending your ascend route is probably prudent. Photos: 1) Irving from the east (photo: Garrett M.) 2) Closer shot of Irving. We went up the obvious ridge in center. 3 (Garrett M.) and 4) Scrambling along the ridge. 5) Looking up Irving. 6) Looking up "North Irving". 7 and 8 ) Looking down and up our descent gully, respectively. NOTE: Since this was ascended a while ago and I'm just now getting back to internet, I've put today's date for visibility, since there hasn't otherwise been recent updates for the peak. I'll backdate this CR in a couple of days. |
