8/3/2021 Route: From Hanson Peak Posted On: 8/3/2021, By: supranihilest Info: California, in contrast to it's higher pile of crap neighbor Hanson, was awesome and worth the effort despite not being ranked. My photos do a poor job of capturing just how bright the rock is, it makes the Red Mountain massif look drab and boring. I followed the ridgeline from Hanson to almost where it turns towards California, and instead of scrambling over the chossy little towers at the elbow there I dropped down into Placer Gulch on loose junk and got on the patch of grass below the Hanson/California saddle. From the saddle the ridge to California is super cool, what with its fire red and white rock. It's horribly rotten of course, and somewhat exposed in spots, but it's entirely Class 2, and you'll probably feel like you're on Mars. |
