9/27/2024 Route: 6 pack Posted On: 9/29/2024, By: yaktoleft13 Info: Did engineer -> darley -> 13140-> cow -> wildhorse -> blackwall from engineer pass. Engineer pass is very easy right now, definitely awd-able. Way easier from LC side than cinnamon. Two switchbacks have moderate rock steps, but relatively easy and the only real obstacles on the road. Whole route is class two. First three peaks are pretty easy. Best way to descend darley is backtracking toward the pass a bit before descending east. Cow is really far out there, dodge the obvious tower around the left. Wildhorse is a gem, best peak of the weekend by far. Traverse the saddles to the SE to reach blackwall, don't be afraid to give up elevation if need be. 17 miles, 5500ish gain, 9 hours. Low point on route is 12.2k |

7/6/2024 Route: via 870 Posted On: 7/6/2024, By: zootloopz Info: 4 miles, 2,300ft gain, and 2 hours to summit. Great to be in such a remote area. So beautiful. Haven't seen a single soul all day. I'd call it about 50% off trail travel. Register paper is pretty fucked, needs a replacement. |

6/8/2024 Route: South Face Via American flats Posted On: 6/9/2024, By: ReginaThomas Info: We hiked Wildhorse from American Flats just off the top of engineer pass. The actual face is dry. We had one minor snow crossing at the base of the face but American Flats is still holding snow. The summer trail is buried so we took a lower route which involved approx an extra 400 feet of gain due to descending into a drainage on the way up and climbing back out on the way back. Snowshoes are mandatory for crossing the flats. Ice ax was not needed as all the remaining snow was EXTREMELY low angle/mostly flat. Snow was mashed potatoes even at 8 am. |

7/5/2023 Route: Engineer Pass Posted On: 7/7/2023, By: JasonKline Info: We did the Engineer Mountain->Darley Mountain->13132->Cow Benchmark->Wildhorse Peak->Blackwall Mountain loop from Engineer Pass as described in https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/tripreport.php?trip=17855 although we took a slightly different route back to Engineer Pass from Blackwall Mountain. There was still patchy snow throughout the route that we occasionally traversed. Most of the snow was flat and inconsequential, and much of it could have been avoided. There was an unavoidable patch on the way up 13132 that had some slope to it, but it was relatively wide and had a flat path on top so you were never close to the edge. One of us did not use microspikes, and the two of us who did use microspikes didn't find them terribly useful on most of the snow due to its softness. None of us took ice axes, but axes might have been nice on the patch below 13132. |
