10/7/2023 Route: from Middle Posted On: 10/7/2023, By: SnowAlien Info: Easy descent from Middle and then a talus slog up Dolores (not too loose). On the descent, I took the north rib down and it worked pretty well, talus was fairly stable. The rest of the descent was less than pleasant as I followed the creek bed. Some minor downclimbing, minor bushwhacking to get back to the TH. Aspens are peaking. Register is completely full. |

7/28/2023 Route: loop w Middle Posted On: 7/30/2023, By: 9patrickmurphy Info: Neat duo of peaks. Yusuf's TR of the way up Middle is spot-on, super easy to the saddle. Some scrambling up the ridge, but never as hard as it looked. Note the Eastern summit is the true summit. Easy walk down to the saddle with Dolores, then a lame talus grind to its summit. Going down I followed Ben's route, which was more lame talus but it went. Lame bushwhack out. Pretty quick day, though it takes some time to get to the trailhead. About 45 minutes from the highway if coming from Lizard Head Pass. |

11/3/2019 Route: Northwest Face Posted On: 11/4/2019, By: supranihilest Info: There is no trail from Dolores County Road 52 up either Dolores Peak or Middle Peak. Bushwhack north up Fish Creek drainage and as the terrain steepens stay on the west side of the creek. There's anywhere from no snow to a couple of inches of snow in spots in the forest. If you find yourself climbing northeast steeply through the forest or northeast on steep scree you're in the wrong place. If you're still in the drainage and below large cliffs you're in the wrong place. In both cases go down creek a little but and then west and north on easier terrain. The first difficult terrain you should encounter is a large, somewhat steep talus field on the western side of the drainage - exposure should be minimal and the creek will be obvious in a gorge to the east. Once above treeline snow coverage is minimal and can mostly or entirely be avoided. Climb towards the Dolores/Middle saddle and turn east and climb the large, obvious talus field that makes up the entirety of Dolores' northwest face. There's quite a bit of snow here but it doesn't really make things either easier or more difficult. The summit is obvious. Go back down the northwest face, every other aspect of the mountain is extremely steep and loose. |
