7/2/2022 Route: From 13,206 Posted On: 7/2/2022, By: supranihilest Info: Dropping off 13,206 the route quickly goes from tundra to yellow dirt and scree. I took this towards a rotting gendarme along the ridge then dropped into the basin to the east. It was easier to just go all the way down on grass than try to sidehill the steep and extremely loose crap along the ridge. I bypassed the gendarme and a large knob on the ridge, then took grass up to 13,377's west ridge, staying on the north side under more rotting towers and such on a climber's trail. Eventually I was able to pass to the south side which was tundra and much easier. To descend I followed the same trail along the ridge and up and over the large knob on the ridge to 13,206. From the saddle there I went west down steep scree into Wetterhorn Basin and eventually found the Wetterhorn Basin trail which I took back to the trailhead. Beautiful views of Wetterhorn, Heisshorn, and Coxcomb. Abundant wildflowers. |

10/17/2020 Route: Middle Fork Posted On: 10/18/2020, By: Bombay2Boulder Info: Summer conditions from Middle Fork. The ridge to Heisshorn is snow free from both the directions. I made an error on the summit register and noted this as 13,260. That is incorrect. In case you are hiking here, don't be confused by the summir register, and please correct it :) |
