7/4/2024 Route: Southwest Gully from Peak Five Posted On: 7/7/2024, By: supranihilest Info: From the summit of Peak Five we descended south a little bit to avoid cliffs directly west off of Five, and then began descending an extremely loose gully to the southwest. The gully goes all the way down but it's a bowling alley and not great for a group. Partway down we traversed to descender's right and downclimbed chossy Class 3 ledges. The final slope to the lake is typical loose trash but man, filtering the cold water from the lake was delicious. We traversed around the lake on the east and north sides (more terribly loose junk), ascended grass to a saddle between Four and Five, then traversed more loose junk to the saddle south of Four. From there we followed grassy ledges around the south and west sides of the ridge to the summit. There's some Class 2+ scrambling along the way and harder scrambling if desired. Beware the rabbit living in the camping meadow, it shredded both of my packs, the handle on my trekking pole, and several of my companion's tent guy-lines. |
