1/28/2024 Route: from Red Mountain Pass Posted On: 1/28/2024, By: artemavovk Info: tagged along with nearby unnamed; Pretty easy and safe skin up; snow is soft and deep until 13000, and then gets a bit windblown and crusty depending on the aspect. The terrain is pretty safe for current conditions. The last maybe 50-100 ft on both peaks don't have snow. Lots of slides on nearby steeper slopes; |

4/11/2023 Route: From RMP Posted On: 4/11/2023, By: SnowAlien Info: This formerly unranked peak apparently is newly ranked. I approached it from the top of RMP, booted a tiny bit just before the summit and skied down Commodore gulch (it goes, boys). It kinda looked a bit scary on the topo, I wasn't sure, but perhaps because of the big snow year, everything is filled in and skied fine. On the drive out, wet slides were coming down in the usual spots and covering the hwy, the excavators were already working. |

5/26/2022 Route: Red Mountain Pass Posted On: 5/27/2022, By: Sbenfield Info: Hiked along with the 13510B and T7 using more or less the same route as described in Piper14er's TR. Did not use any traction the entire day, was able to locate obvious dry patches on the way up to all 3 peaks. Did use ice axe for glissades on the way down from T7 to the highway at times for extra security. . Tried to take as many pictures of other SJ peaks in case others had them on their Memorial Day wish list |

9/16/2020 Route: Southeast Slopes from Red Mountain Mining Overlook Posted On: 9/17/2020, By: supranihilest Info: There's a road up from the switchback near the Red Mountain mining overlook - there are Idarado Mine signs on the gate - for a short distance and then the remaining route to the summit is off-trail. It basically heads northwest through the hills and basins between that area and the peak. I followed drainages down low and then just natural contours of the hills up higher. Route finding was a bit of a pain and the route was steep with no breaks. A few times I found myself climbing crumbling 40 degree slopes which were unpleasant. Upon arriving at Ptarmigan Lake a prominent ramp on the lake's south side appeared and I took this ramp to the summit ridge and then the summit. Above the lake the rock is super junky dirt/pea gravel/chip rock. Not hard but absolute garbage. The summit block is neat. |
