7/19/2021 Route: Northwest Ridge from Hazel Lake Posted On: 7/21/2021, By: supranihilest Info: From camp at Hazel Lake we traversed around the north side of the lake and then followed an obvious, huge grass ramp to the Grizzly Peak C/McCauley saddle. The ridge to McCauley begins as Class 2 grass before turning to Class 2 talus and boulders, and as one nears the summit Class 2+ to Class 3 scrambling on excellent granite blocks. To keep the route at Class 2+ traverse under the difficulties on the southwest side of the ridge. The final summit scramble is likewise Class 2+ to Class 3 depending on exact line. Route finding is generally minimal and obvious, exposure is moderate. |
