Route: West Mosquito Pass
Posted On: 6/4/2025, By: bigfoot1
Info: Brought snowshoes but didn't use them or any other traction. There is some snow, but it's mostly avoidable or a small enough section that it's just faster to crawl over it vs put snowshoes on and off. Sunk down to mid thigh on average, and past my hips in the worst case. Ridge is mostly dry to the top. There is a plastic thing in the summit cairn but no paper or writing utensils inside.

Route: Mosquito Pass Rd (CR-12) to Evans North Ridge
Posted On: 9/29/2024, By: Ssgustafson
Info: Saw 4 moose near the trailhead at about 7AM! After this exciting start, I proceeded to hike up Mosquito Pass Rd (CR-12) over the London / Kuss Saddle to Mosquito Pass and then up the North Ridge of Evans to the summit. There are only a few small & shallow patches of snow above 13,000'. I also got a good view of all the peaks from Pennsylvania to London and Mosquito and over to Tweto, which are also essentially free of snow. Microspikes are unnecessary ballast now.

Route: from Mosquito Pass
Posted On: 6/22/2024, By: cougar
Info: Road up to Mosquito Pass has several large snowdrifts and fields to cross, but was fairly firm. From Mosquito Pass, was able to avoid all snow - west side is clear, east slopes from ridge holding snowfields and cornice. Old radio shacks and some new poles for lines going up. Neighboring peaks appeared to have mix of snow conditions, but the road is the worst of the snow.

Route: Via Pennsylvania
Posted On: 6/19/2024, By: Danger_D
Info: Ridge down Penn is snow free. East slope of Evans is about 80% melted with a few steepish snow sections. Most of these are sun cupped and easy to climb without spikes, but I needed the spikes on the final snow field below the summit ridge. The upper face is pretty boggy so I was glad for boots instead of trail runners. Summit is melted out. Pic is from Pennsylvania

Route: West Slope
Posted On: 5/30/2024, By: PeakMiller
Info: Skinned up Mosquito Pass on Memorial Day. The coverage was heavy, and the road was non-existent. From the top I made my way to the summit of Mt. Evans. The West Slope was too firm at 9:30am so I opted to ride a bowl on the SE side of Evans. After 1k of riding I skinned back up to the summit and rode down the west slope in nice soft conditions.

Route: Via. Pennsylvania

Info: Pennsylvania Standard to Evans and back... Either windblown or knee-deep unconsolidated garbage; neither traction nor flotation would have helped.

Route: Mosquito Pass

Info: Hiked Mt. Evans B from Mosquito Pass on the Leadville Side. Route is snow free. There is a small cornice still lingering before the final pitch but it is easily avoidable.

Route: Conley lakes

Info: Alpine start of 1:30pm. Dry to summit. Blue skies, hail, then blue again. Quick and easy route when weather is iffy and youd rather sleep in.

Route: From Penn Mtn
Posted On: 5/30/2023, By: kwhit24
Info: The lower area from the trailhead is muddy but the snow is navigable. The were a couple snow fields going up to the Penn Mtn plateau. From there to the saddle between Penn ant Mt. Evans B was snow free or the snow was avoidable. Nothing on this hike was over Class 2 and we didn't use or need any flotation. Going up Mt. Evans B required crossing multiple snow fields as we hopped to each rock/grass area. 95% of the time the snow was firm enough to walk on but the we did have a few knee to hip deep postholes. On the way down we made a few short glissades. (10.09 mi; 3,232' gain; 5:10:09 total time) Start at TH 7:25am; Pennsylvania Mtn 8:35am; Mount Evans B 10:15am; Back to TH 12:35pm

Route: West Mosquito Pass
Posted On: 4/16/2023, By: sarahmariekirk
Info: Road to trailhead was snow-free and super easy. From West Mosquito Pass to the snowmobile road, it was nicely packed down and groomed from recent snowmobile traffic. We didnt put on snowshoes until we reached the end of the snowmobile road, to gain the slopes up to the saddle. Conditions were mixed with some postholing, powder and punching through to crust. Some sections had bulletproof snow that snowshoes were super helpful for. Once at the saddle, we shed our snowshoes and booted up to Evans B summit. Spikes would be helpful in certain areas but not necessary.

Route: From CR 3 east of Leadville
Posted On: 4/15/2023, By: bangerth
Info: It is not spring yet. It was 0F and 25mph of wind at the top, with very little visibility, and so we decided to end our day on Evans B instead of heading back via Dyer and W Dyer as originally planned. CR 3 is reasonably well packed down from a snow cat that must have driven there a few days ago, plus some snowmobiles. Eventually one gets to a "Do not enter here" sign on the way to Mosquito Pass, and from there one heads up a slope to Evans B's north ridge, which is partly covered by snow and partly by grass. Follow the power lines to the ridge without much trouble, and then head south to Evans B also without trouble. We did not see how it looks beyond that to Dyer for lack of visibility. It snowed for a good share of the day, and it was at times difficult to see where CR 3 goes, both on the way up and down. It didn't help that the gloomy light made all fresh snow look the same, resulting in featureless views that were at times a bit disorienting.

Route: From West Mosquito Pass

Info: Conditions pretty much the same as the Mosquito group last weekend except the wickedly cold wind on the ridge. Pleasant down in the valley and again loved the snowmobile packed road to 12k. But forecast called for -23F wind-chill and I think it reached that on the ridge. Got to Mt Evans B and barely able to stay warm even with emergency puffy on. Gave up on adding West Dyer due to the wind.

Route: Road on Evans B
Posted On: 1/28/2023, By: Geckser
Info: Pretty nasty weather. Very cold, very windy, no visibility. We took shelter in a small shack near the summit to stay warm, it was EXTREMELY cold. We skied the road towards Mosquito Pass and took the road up the ridge. continuous from bottom to 13,300. For the road ski lovers like me it was pretty solid, if you are looking to turn more than 7 times you should look elsewhere. Good safe route for a dirty day, 3:20 hours RT.

Info: Route is in great shape. Road is groomed from the winter closure all the way to 12k. From there a standard mix of grass/talus/shallow snow to the summit. Fantastic winter route. Clocked 9 miles and 3k gain.
