4/10/2026 Route: E Ridge to Summit S Ridge Posted On: 4/10/2026, By: null_pointer Info: At least as of today it is basically summer like conditions all the way. There is some snow...but all avoidable. I just used the road to cross at the mine then went up to the ridge and walked up. When I got to the summit block I angled around a snow field and ascended from the south. There are make shift trails up the South Ridge. Decided to take this route when I got to the mine...it looked easier, shorter, faster, and more straightforward then ascending the the ridge between Mount Sherman and Mount Sheridan. Although, I will say, other than the cornice on the ridge edge, once you are on the ridgeline you can ascend Sheridan via the NE ridge without snow. I will add some conditions pics shortly. It was a wonderful day...very little wind...not too cold. |

3/29/2026 Route: Sheridan NE Ridge/Peerless/Horseshoe/Finnback Knob Posted On: 3/30/2026, By: GSODJA Info: We hiked the loop from Mt. Sheridan, Peerless Mt., Horseshoe Mt, and Finnback Knob. Descended Horseshoe Mt East slopes route. A few snowfields on entire route, most avoidable. Largest snowfield was heading up Sheridan. Brought mircospikes but did not use. Early summer conditions. |

3/18/2026 Route: Northeast Ridge Posted On: 3/18/2026, By: Bckk Info: Really smooth climb. Had to park below 11,000 feet. Please also do that. There are a bunch of signs that say “Park here or you will get stuck” and on my way back down I saw three AWD SUV’s stuck. If you have AWD and snow tires, you’d be fine, but they were all on all season tires. The climb itself was uneventful. Microspikes were more than sufficient, very little snow to contend with, and almost all of it was hard packed. Windy up high but manageable. |

5/24/2025 Route: Northeast Ridge Posted On: 5/24/2025, By: HikesInGeologicTime Info: Bootable all the way to summit by staying on tundra/talus. Snow tops out about 100 feet below summit. Skied down snowfield covering/connected to Sherman saddle, staying extreme skiers right at first to stay on the good side of a high cornice, then stayed low when approaching the saddle to avoid the even more impressive cornice hanging there. Managed to ski mostly continuously from where I dropped in almost to the gate marking the TH with one section of brief grass hopping and one the necessitated ski removal and schlepping near where I rejoined the road. Overall pleasant conditions for how hot this spring has been. |

4/12/2025 Route: Northeast Ridge Posted On: 4/12/2025, By: ProfetaP Info: Started around 10,800 due to the amount of snow on the road & didn't feel like getting stuck. This ended up being closer to 10 miles, but the road is melting out pretty quick. I took the skis with me and skinned up ( had to take the skis off a few times) the left side as if I was going to Horeshoe, cut right under peerless, and hit the summit. On the way down, I took a similar path but wasn't back on the skis until around 12.5ish and then skied all the way back to the car with no issues. The trees around 12k are holding snow well. If you wanted, you could ski off the summit - skiers left has a better line but a cornice to keep an eye on and a little thin, but could probably make it back down to the road (I was too lazy to carry the skis to the summit). |

3/30/2025 Route: East Slopes/South East Ridge Posted On: 3/31/2025, By: ccawdrey Info: We parked at 10,800' along Four Mile Creek where the snow ended. Looks like a few folks have tried to push across the snow with cars. Unsurprisingly we saw evidence of winch and dig outs a hundred or so feet past where we parked. With a solid overnight freeze and a cold/windy forecast we walked the snow covered road to roughly 11,400'. Due to some post holing with the sun poking out we transitioned to skis. We exited the road and pushed directly up the East/SE ski line. The summer trail is almost entirely devoid of snow but we chose to follow the white stuff instead. It was mostly bulletproof sastrugi with a few soft wind deposits here and there. Axes were nice for security on the final push to the summit but the snow was punchable with just ski boots. We had to get creative with a few small hops over dirt patches and rocks on the way back down but ultimately there was a continuous patch of snow from the summit to the car. I don't anticipate this will last long, it was already a bit too thin for comfort in spots. There was one other group out today pushing directly up the south slopes of Sherman. Looks like they found near continuous snow coverage. The NE face of Sheridan had an interesting cornice just below the ridge. Probably doesn't go quite yet with the PWL sticking around on said aspect. |

4/13/2024 Route: Via Peerless Posted On: 4/13/2024, By: man_of_nature Info: Climbed Peerless and Sheridan. Brought snowshoes but didn't use them, although I did start early not wanting to suffer in the warm forecast. Traction wasn't necessary, some may like it on the hard crust on the way up to Peerless. Brought an axe but only used it for glissading down a few bits coming down from Sheridan to the road. |

9/17/2023 Route: Northeast Ridge Posted On: 9/17/2023, By: madadraw1 Info: Once at saddle there was 2-3 inches of snow. Already boot tracks before us and the way up and thus snow as packed down and no traction necessary. A lot more snow on Horseshoe, just one peak away and looked like a lot on the Collegiates, but not much north of there along the Sawatch. |

6/25/2023 Route: Northeast Ridge Posted On: 6/26/2023, By: cdgibbons Info: 150' of continuous snow to the saddle with Sherman. Pretty bootpacked; I did not use traction. Otherwise summer conditions. Descended to the south and picked up the road on the Horseshoe route to make a fun, quick loop. On this road, two large snowfields on steep sidehills that require some brief, creative detours. |

5/7/2023 Route: Northeast Ridge Posted On: 5/7/2023, By: sarahmariekirk Info: Sheridan today via the NE ridge. Climbed up a 30 degree or so snow slope to gain the ridge. Pretty mellow day and moody weather. Road is dry all the way to the gate, and coverage is pretty minimal. There are some skiable sections on South Slopes of Sherman but did not see anything with full coverage. The cornice is still present but pretty small. Great day! |

4/1/2023 Route: Posted On: 4/1/2023, By: stomblin7 Info: Snow shoes recommended from winter parking trailhead. A group of 6-7 people tried to ascend Sherman today without them, and it did not look pretty (sinking knee to thigh deep every step) - kudos for their efforts though. Road is mostly snow covered, a few sections have a bit of rock here and there hiking in. The ridge is mostly dry, with some punchy spots of snow and everyone's favorite trap doors (not bad though). The saddle between Sheridan and Sherman looked heavily loaded with a nice cornice. The east face of Sheridan was mostly dry, though we did crawl the last 500-800 ft to summit due to 50+ mph winds... every time I stood up I got knocked backwards hah. I believe the group attempting Sherman turned at the ridge from Wind today. If you think this peak will shelter you from wind - it is not so haha. There is a gently loaded snow slope just south of the ascent we did, and after plunge stepping down about 1/2 way we decided to get a nice little glissade in. - Will update Trailhead conditions separately |

8/14/2022 Route: Iowa Gulch Posted On: 8/15/2022, By: kwhit24 Info: Started from Iowa Gulch and the whole route was straight forward and nothing more than Class 2. When returning from Peerless I just contoured above the grass under Sheridan to the Sherman saddle and returned to the car via the West slopes route. One comment about this descent is that it turns into slick gravel in more than a few spots so it can be tricky if you're trying to move quickly. Met one person on Dyer, 2 going up Sheridan, 3 going to Peerless, and about 50+ on the Sherman route ha (11.39 mi; 4,301' gain; 6:32:47 total time) Start at TH 5:50am; Dyer Mtn 7:00am; Gemini Peak 7:45am; White Ridge 8:50am; Mt. Sherman 9:40am; Mt. Sheridan 10:45am; Peerless Mtn 11:20am; Back to TH 12:25pm |
