6/14/2026 Route: XYZ traverse Posted On: 6/14/2026, By: Geckser Info: There is still some snow in the Gores. Arthurspiderman and I did the XYZ traverse from Pitkin lake trailhead. Got out before the rain arrived. Very nice route and the snow was just melted out enough to not need snow gear for the entirety of the trip. Enough snow to have to stay ridge direct or close to for the entirety of the route which added some difficulty but everything goes. We did glissade down 900 feet of snow below X prime back into the basin on the way down. |

7/20/2025 Route: XYZ Traverse Posted On: 7/21/2025, By: lfishsays Info: Current conditions on Usable Pass. On the way to X we followed the X’ ridge for a bit before dropping and contouring to X due to the snow. On the way back we went up the gulley pictured here which has some solid rock but maybe sketchier than anything on the traverse lol |

7/6/2024 Route: from Pitkin Lake Trail Posted On: 7/7/2024, By: Laxer04 Info: We did the XYZ traverse from Pitkin Lake TH. Intermittent snow in the basin below Usable Pass, all avoidable. You can mostly avoid snow going up Usable Pass as well. The west side of Usable Pass is holding a lot of snow. We descended the pass using spikes and an axe. It wasn't ideal. The route up x from there is mostly snow free, or at least avoidable. We traversed over to Y and Z and then came back through the basin below the traverse. We opted to avoid going back over the snow filled Usable Pass and went to the north side and found a safe exit over the pass that was snow free. |

8/15/2023 Route: XYZ traverse via Usable pass Posted On: 8/19/2023, By: SnowAlien Info: This was my second time up X, but this time there was no summit register. We also added X' and stayed high on the ridge from the Usable pass. Camped around 10,800 in Pitkin Creek and the RT showed 10 miles and 3,800 ft camp to camp for the X'-X-Y-Z-Z' loop. |
