8/15/2023 Route: From usable pass Posted On: 8/16/2023, By: yaktoleft13 Info: From pitkin creek trailhead, ascended up usable pass, ran x'xyzz' ridge (may have missed y on accident oops), descended from z/z' saddle to upper lakes, went back to usable, then ran vista/solitude/climbers point ridge. Descended grassy/talusy slopes back to trail. Managed to bushwhack through a wasp's nest trying to get to usable. Usable is well named: it's usable, but certainly not fun, convenient, or enjoyable. Route is completely dry, other than 20' section of snow dodging the cliffs at low point of y/z ridge. Xyz is probably stiff 4th the way I did it. Possibly the crack up the hidden slab to the right of the obvious one on x' was low 5th. The vista/solitude/climber's point ridge has a bit of scrambling, but is much more of a hike. 17 miles, 8100 feet, 13 hours car to car. Awesome and unexpected to run into Natalie and Shawn (Sean? Shaun?) up there on a random Tuesday! |

7/22/2023 Route: from pitkin trail Posted On: 7/22/2023, By: Laxer04 Info: Summer conditions. We camped at Pitkin Lake and went up the steep grassy slopes just east of the Pitkin Lake trail. We hit Vista Peak first, than over to Solitude, Climber's Pt and Skier's Pt. No snow on the route whatsoever and we didn't see a single person. It was awesome. Tons of marmots at Pitkin Lake and they are aggressive. Don't leave anything unattended for long. Also saw a couple goats, they were super friendly and hung around camp the entire time we were there. Amazing place. |
