Route: Mummy Madness from Ypsilon + Mount Chapin
Posted On: 7/12/2021, By: supranihilest
Info: The route from Ypsilon to Chiquita is finally where Mummy Madness begins to get easy. Route finding is generally obvious and the trail segments up Ypsilon difficult to follow, so just head towards Chiquita on low angle tundra, scree, talus, and small boulders. There shouldn't be any scrambling at all on the route. From the Ypsilon/Chiquita saddle ascend the obvious easy slopes up Chiquita. To continue on to Chapin descend the obvious route to the saddle between the two peaks and then up a nice trail to Chapin's summit. Either descend the trail again or traverse west across grass and talus and then descend north to the trail when it becomes reasonable to do so. Take the trail to Chapin Creek trailhead. Hopefully you have a shuttle vehicle parked here. We did not so we hitched a ride. It took us about half an hour and dozens of passing vehicles before someone finally stopped and graciously gave us a ride all the way back to Lawn Lake trailhead. Thank you to Vanessa and Don for the lift, the beers, the margaritas, and the camaraderie. You guys rock!

Route: Chapin Pass to Chiquita-Ypsilon-Fairchild

Info: Trail is covered in mostly rotten snow for the first mile-ish, intermittent patches after that. Nothing show stopping, melting fast. Traction helpful but probably not required. Spare socks were nice.

Route: Chapin Pass to Chiquita-Ypsilon-Fairchild

Info: Route is snow free. We stuck to the ridge on the descent after Ypsilon. Great class 3-class 4 scrambling. All the class 5 difficulties on the ridge proper can be easily by-passed. You can always take the route shown in description and avoid scrambling.

Info: Arrived at the trailhead at 6am, excellent conditions - low wind for most of the morning. Trail was in great condition, easy to follow all the way to Chiquita. Actually did Chapin last. Also easy to find the way between Chiquita and Ypsilon. Spectacular views the entire way, especially after leaving the trees! Old Fall River road also in great condition.
