"Devils Playground Peak"

Peak Condition Updates
3/11/2025
Route: From Crags Trailhead

Info: Beautiful day and possibly the easiest winter hike I have done this season! The only thing you might want to have is spikes, but even those aren't strictly necessary. Thanks to everyone who broke out a nice trench over the weekend! Looks like the final stretch up to pikes is also pretty easy as most of the snow has melted/isn't all that deep/rock solid from the wind.

Route: Little Italy Couloir

Info: For anyone interested in Little Italy before it melts soon. Snow had an icy crust above that dust layer. The boot is just about melted out and disconnected. The upper section is full with a couple rock sections exposed near the top. I included a photo of the top of Devils playground from a week or so before this, but it has probably melted some.

Info: From craigs trailhead, trail has some snow but no traction needed, sure for the summit of pikes as well. Gaiters were nice for the deeper patches of snow above the trees. Pretty windy today, we had a 4hr30min turn around so made it to devils and turned around. Good heavy pack training day.

Info: Dry. Only a small patch of avoidable snow at the little creek crossing. A few trees down at about 2 miles.

Route: Via Pikes Northwest Slopes
Posted On: 1/11/2020, By: supranihilest
Info: All aspects are snowy but the snow is not concerning. The peak is close to the trail from the north and south, and a quick side trip will net you this easy 13er either on your way to or from Pikes.

Route: Crags

Info: Basically snow free and what snow there was wasn't deep. Did it in trail runners. No traction/flotation required—even in the late afternoon. The trail from the Playground to Pikes looked a bit snowier; but we didn't have time to check it out firsthand (because we didn't start from the trailhead until 4pm).

Info: No need for snowshoes. Bootpacked all the way. Different story on the way down if you don‘t take the same way up (which I didn‘t) so I was glad to have my snowshoes with me.

Info: Fearsome, intimidating, and frankly terrifying, especially when combined with the majestic "Little Pikes." Bring everything you have and the kitchen sink. Ropes and a hefty trad rack essential. Leave the kids at home for this lung-buster.
