Posted On: 6/13/2025, By: M_Dundee

Info: Mountain is still 90% snow covered. Tried climbing with trail running shoes, no spikes or snowshoes - while this worked, traction and flotation are still highly recommended. Mountain is still more suitable for skiing than hiking at the moment

Info: No bathroom or trash cans at trailhead. Road to trailhead is all paved. Small parking lot. Trail conditions are dry. Would bring a pole or poles for from part of cupid on up to grizzly. Lots of marmots, pica, and goats out today!

Info: Route over to Cupid is covered in minimal snow, two people ahead of us put in some tracks which we re-established along with others out yesterday. The route over to Grizzly looked looked pretty untouched but had way less snow compared to when I did it last year. Wore microspikes all day, but honestly not needed.

Info: The trail is a mix of rock and snow, mostly well worn and where there is snow it is pretty packed down. Did not go all the way to Grizzly but I will add some images of that route as well as the backside of Torreys (from Cupid).

Route: Grizzly and Cupid from Loveland Pass

Info: Both approaches to Cupid are solid with little snow: 1) the route from Sniktau that crosses two false summits; and 2) the cut-off trail used to access Cupid and Grizzly D without Sniktau. Snow is on the ground, but it's mostly wind-hardened and very crusty (and also isn't deeper than, like, six inches max). Plenty of bare areas.

Route: Grizzly and Cupid from Loveland Pass
Posted On: 1/22/2023, By: madmattd
Info: Last-minute hike of the Loveland Pass 13ers trio due to the forecast changing to be so nice. Wind-swept with minimal snow to PT12,915. Similar for the most part to Cupid, a few sections of reasonable snow depth, but nothing dramatic. Bare-booted all the way to Cupid without issue. Did end up using microspikes for the descent on the packed snow sections. See reports for Grizzly D and Snikatu for info on those routes.

Route: Grizzly and Cupid from Loveland Pass

Info: From Loveland Pass, Cupid has a few light snow patches but spikes unnecessary. No snow on descent spur between Cupid-East Loveland Pass Peak saddle and the main route up from Loveland Pass.

Info: Ran the ridge from Loveland pass to sw lenawee this morning. Summer conditions. All snow on route is either avoidable or inconsequential. Very windy from car to summit of grizzly, but as soon as I started down the ridge toward lenawee, the wind quieted. Sustained, fun scrambling from there all the way to sw lenawee. Nothing too loose, so long as you were near the ridge. I took the ridge back the way I came. I could have descended to a-basin and hiked the road, but hiking the side of Loveland pass is way sketchier than anything on the route. Gps had it at 10.2 mi and 5300 gain

Route: SE Face and Dave's Wave
Posted On: 5/21/2022, By: ClimberSkierDave64
Info: Skinned the ridge continuously from the pass. No wind from the latest snowfall so everywhere had 12-24 in of new snow. SE Face and Dave's Wave skied good

Info: Adding a few details and some more pictures to go along with the Grizzly Peak D update from boucry. From Loveland Pass to the ridge is a mix of rock, ice, snow, and dirt. Small cornices on the east side of the ridge to Sniktau but not an issue unless you're wondering well off the trail. Relatively dry to Cupid; started getting more consistent snow between Cupid and Grizzly. Only went to the main hump between Cupid and Grizzly. Glad I hauled my snowshoes, even though I never took them off my pack - great conditioning workout, along with a dozen other unused things in my monster pack (including the unused but cool looking ice-axe!). Never used traction - didn't need it (though I didn't start until almost 10am). This is a perfect route to lug a bunch of unnecessary stuff - all the little ups and downs make for a great workout with a hefty pack on your back! Incredibly beautiful, clear day - least amount of wind I've ever encountered in this region - just a few periods of mildly gusty wind. Will upload pictures of the surrounding peaks as well.

Info: Snow is already rendering this update invalid, but at least knowing pre-snow could be helpful. That area is typically super windblown, regardless. Parking lot to top of ridge was long stretches of hard-packed snow and some stretches of dry. From ridge to Cupid (I only went to Cupid), heck of a lot of dry. On the way back, I noticed a booter through the summer cutover trail from Cupid's saddle; surprised to see. I do not recommend. Couple spots above the cutover trail look super iffy, but my bigger concern would be slipping. Not sure the quality of snow allows for an effective self-arrest, and you'd slide FAST. So, just regain the top of the ridge. The extra 196' gain doesn't hurt. :)

Route: Just “Cupid” via Pt. 12915
Posted On: 11/29/2021, By: HikesInGeologicTime
Info: Great day to summit a 13er without needing to set an alarm - minimal wind, blue skies, plenty of parking at Loveland Pass! Snow/ice was largely avoidable, and where it wasn't, it wasn't so slick/steep as to make traction an absolute necessity (but a good thing to pack just in case - 'better to have it and not need it than to risk needing SAR for your broken tailbone right off Loveland Effing Pass' and all). Took pics of Sniktau, Grizzly, and the saddle between Griz and Torreys for anyone who's feeling more ambitious than I was and would find photos you have to enlarge and still squint at to be somewhat more useful than reading tea leaves/waiting for another CR.

Route: Grizzly and Cupid from Loveland Pass
Posted On: 5/25/2021, By: mijoflynn
Info: Lots of traffic on this route today, but there aren't any recent conditions reports, so I'll just drop a quick one here. Occasionally, there's an inch or two of crusty snow on the way up to Pt 12,915, but nothing requiring traction. The trail over to Cupid is almost completely clear -- just a bit of snow at the summit.
