Route: From Camp Dick
Posted On: 7/26/2024, By: HikerGuy
Info: I didn't feel like dealing with Wild Basin, so I started from Camp Dick. Pretty boring until breaking off from the Buchanan Pass Trail. One short exposed off camber section followed by a single Class 3 move before the summit , otherwise pretty easy, just long. 19.02 miles, 4,451 feet and 10h27m round trip. It took longer than expected. I think the smoke slowed me down a bit on ascent and it was really warm on the descent. First and last 4 miles I took the road up and trail down, trail is much better option.

Route: Ouzel Peak -> Ogalalla Peak -> Isolation Peak -> M
Posted On: 8/10/2023, By: JasonKline
Info: We did the Ouzel Peak -> Ogalalla Peak -> Isolation Peak -> Mahana Peak loop from the Wild Basin trailhead. It was extremely windy from when we hit the lakes until we finished Mahana. There were summer conditions, with only one or two very short, inconsequential snow crossings. After finishing Mahana, we should have taken the route in the first picture where you immediately descend back to Isolation Lake and hike back to Bluebird Lake, where you can then take the nice trail all the way back to the trailhead. Instead, we ended up taking the route in the second picture where you ride the ridge east and descend to near Ouzel Lake. Don't take this second route. It's great until you descend to Ouzel Lake, which becomes a lot of rock-hopping and bushwhacking. Just descend the west side of Mahana instead.

Route: Roaring Fork, Stone Lake
Posted On: 7/21/2023, By: tjf242424
Info: I approached from the Granby side to avoid the hassles of RMNP, taking Roaring Fork Trail to Stone Lake, then up to the saddle north of Cooper Peak, then the ridge to Ogalalla. All summer conditions. The gully above Upper Stone Lake is grass for the first half, then loose rocks. The upper part of the gully is the worst part. The rest is easy cruising.

Route: E Ridge
Posted On: 6/29/2023, By: markf
Info: summited via Elk's Tooth from St Vrain Basin. Microspikes would have been nice in a few spots, otherwise easy conditions. Trail to 11k is clear and mostly dry.

Route: From Copeland Mountain via Cony Pass

Info: Copeland's tedium continues en route to Ogalalla, now with steep and extremely roly-poly talus to contend with. Scramble along Copeland's long west ridge (Class 2+ish) towards the huge gendarme blocking the ridge, then descend below it (or perhaps scramble up and over it if you want, I didn't bother). I went down what looked like it would be fairly grassy but it was very steep ankle breaker roly-poly type junk. Closer to the gendarme it looked a little better. I sidehilled around the gendarme into a steep grassy ledge system which I made an ascending traverse of towards Cony Pass, which only became visible at the last second. Alternatively you could return to the ridge crest beyond the gendarme and scramble across it. From Cony Pass there's no apparent way up the vertical rock of the Continental Divide, but immediately around the corner to climber's right is a gully system that takes one up to the Divide. The gully starts off very steep on broken rock and kitty litter at about Class 3. I started up the left side before crossing to the right. At a small saddle the terrain drops sharply to the right over a rib. I hugged the left and squeezed through next to a detached block, traversed right about 20 feet, and then zig-zagged up ledges to the Divide. Every rock is loose and the exposure is high. I recommend helmets for groups. From the Divide it's Class 2 tundra and embedded boulders to Ogalalla.

Route: via Isolaton Peak
Posted On: 7/14/2020, By: MC.Ikema
Info: Hiked the ridge from Isolation to Ogalalla. The ridge is snow free. Intended to descend via Cony Pass but there was too much corniced snow lingering in the steep gullies. Ended up backtracking to Ouzel Peak and descend Ouzel's north slopes down to Pipit Lake and out Bluebird.
