Route: From Wheeler Basin

Info: This conditions report is for anyone interested in visiting Wheeler Basin. The basin is amazingly beautiful. From Wheeler Basin, one can easily access Arikaree and Kiowa Peaks. This trip is a long day that starts from the Fourth of July TH. You reach Arapaho Pass after 3.3 miles. From there descend approximately 3.2 miles then cross Arapaho Creek and begin a half mile traverse over to Wheeler Basin. There is a strong game trail here, finding this is key to easy passage. After 7 miles (total), the game trail will deposit you in a small meadow, after leaving the meadow cross Wheeler Basin Creek and find a good climber's trail. This trail will take you all the way to the aptly named Pinnacle Vista Cabin. You may lose the trail occasionally as you get higher in the basin, but the way up is obvious. From the cabin, ascend grassy boulder-bounded gullies to the base of a talus filled gully. The gully is filled with good-sized decently stable talus, it was very manageable. From the top of the gully the decision is yours. My GPS read 20.99 miles and 7,406 feet after a very long day.
