Route: Southwest Ridge
Posted On: 11/22/2020, By: 14er101
Info: 90%+ dry from Loveland Pass, conditions were great today! All snow was avoidable, some snow on the ridge. All snow was stable, walked along, and broke through only once or twice.

Info: No snow on trail. Good sunny day. Note the first section is steep so take it slow and easy on the way down. Not much for footing their.

Info: Still a good bit of snow on the trail up, but well packed. Microspikes weren't necessary. High winds once you reach the main ridge.

Info: Loveland pass had about 5 total cars when I started at 4:30AM. Lots of fresh snow but snowshoes were unnecessary. Microspikes very helpful. Minimal wind. Nobody had ascended yet since snowstorm. Overall pretty easy going. Was a little sketchy for a dog as the fresh snow/ice on the rocks made for high injury risk. Posthole to knee if leaving trail or windblown areas.

Info: from the moment you get out of the car the wind is brutal. the ripping wind continues until you get to the first false summit, at which point it weirdly stopped and was warm and sunny and still the rest of the hike up. There were about 3 small spots where you had to cross snow, however they were packed down from other hikers and no traction was needed.

Info: Can now park at loveland pass again. Route to both Sniktau and Cupid in great condition, no winter gear needed. Did it in trail runners. Several snow patches to cross, but very well trenched.

Info: From the Loveland Pass trailhead. Path was clear, very few spots of snow which were easy to pass, no ice conditions. Beautiful snowcaps surrounding. Peak had a few inches of snow remaining, but easy to walk on.

Info: Trail from top of pass was mostly bare with some snowpack to the ridge. Once on the ridge the trail to summit was mixed exposed trail and snowpack. Any icy patches are easily avoidable by staying on rocks. No special equipment needed. The usual wind, but not uncomfortable. Made it out to Cupid as well. Not another soul the ENTIRE hike!

Info: Mostly wind blown, mix of exposed ground and pack. Spikes will do you just fine. Significant cornices along the East aspects, you'd have to seek them out for it to be an issue. Windy AF, but that's Loveland pass for ya.

Info: Floatation not needed as the snow is either hard or has blown off the ridge. Microspikes are helpful, but since much of the trail is bare, I didn't bother putting them on.

Info: Hike from Loveland Pass up to the ridge, pretty windblown with occasional drifts. I used microspikes. From ridge to Sniktau, trail is also windblown and microspikes were enough. Cornices are getting pretty big but by sticking to ridge proper no problem. I had the summit and the trail to myself. Unusual. :)

Info: Wore microspikes the whole way; could've probably gotten away with it without them, but it was nice to have the traction in the blowing snow and intermittent whiteout conditions.

Info: Similar to the Cupid report. You can leave the flotation at home. We did a sunrise hike up to Sniktau. I wore spikes. They were useful for a couple sections of the climb to the ridge and a couple sections on the approach to the summit. Otherwise, the trail is pretty clear and in good shape.

Info: No real postholing going on, the worst was just past my ankle. Leave them snowshoes at home.
