12/4/2024 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 12/4/2024, By: nilaoire Info: You may as well put on snowshoes once you cross the road, from the parking lot, and continue to wear them until above tree line. We put in a trail through the trees today following the summer trail, that at least should help. Wind blown snow above the trees, soft in spots, thin in other areas. Once you reach the 1st high point on the ridge, approx 12800 ft, snow shoes are totally unnecessary. Enjoy. |

6/15/2024 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 6/16/2024, By: bangerth Info: Summer conditions as long as you always stay left of the snow fields on your way up. There are still very large cornice remnants along both the way up and then the long ridge over. But you never have to cross any as long as you stay left. |

4/21/2024 Route: Via Coronet Drive Posted On: 4/21/2024, By: man_of_nature Info: Climbed Red Mountain, Hoosier Ridge, and Red Peak starting from the dead end of Coronet Drive. Started at 0445, boot pack was fine on road. Wore snowshoes from my turn off point until tree line. Ridge between the three peaks was good, no traction needed. Only one small spot coming off of Red Mountain going down to the saddle with Hoosier that I used my axe for. Wore snowshoes from tree line after Red Peak until I got back to the road/trail and there was sufficient boot pack. |

1/15/2024 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 1/16/2024, By: 14ercooper Info: Climbed mostly before sunrise. Quite a lot of wind and blowing snow still. I only used my snowshoes for a short segment near treeline, and didn't bother past that point. Be very careful of potential avalanche slopes in the region (should be a no-brainer given the 3/4 or 4/5 avalanche danger that was and still is forecasted), I definitely was seeing signs of instability, even if I didn't personally kick off anything on the slopes below me. Overall a good day, if a bit windy and cold still (without any real ways to avoid the wind either), though it was actually colder back in Denver than on the summit. |

11/12/2023 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 11/12/2023, By: Rampaging Baloths Info: Not a lot of snow. Packed trail that is easy to follow in trees. Typical wind blown drifts of sugar and crunch above treeline all the way. Brought and did not use traction and an ax. Warm and for the most part windless. Glorious time to be up high. |

10/21/2023 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 10/22/2023, By: GGScheer Info: Totally dry all the way. Only went as far as Hoosier Ridge, but both Red Peak and Mountain likewise were dry. Totally calm sunny day -- amazing -- hiked in shorts and one layer on top. |

6/19/2023 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 6/20/2023, By: NittanyLion14er Info: Also includes Red Mt C. Hoosier dry to last false summit (1/2 mi from proper). Small snow "field" to summit proper, mix hard pack and soft knee deep post holing, but was later morning/early afternoon. Mostly dry to Red Mt C, one small soft snow crossing and couple wet areas. No s-shoes or spikes needed. |

5/28/2023 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 5/28/2023, By: Danger_D Info: Scattered snow up until treeline (.5ish miles from car) which was firm around sunrise and posthole-city around 11 on the way back. Above treeline its 90% snow free with only a handful of postholes. Even if you go into this route knowing its a ton of false-summits, its still very easy to be fooled. No traction needed, and I think dragging snowshoes for the .5 miles of post-holing is overkill |

4/1/2023 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 4/1/2023, By: kyrawhitworth Info: Windy day but thankfully not too cold. Used snowshoes until the ridge and used spikes after that. Variable rock/snow mix but no flotation needed up high. Worked for the trench in the trees which the wind will no doubt cover up. |

10/6/2022 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 10/7/2022, By: Jay521 Info: What few snow spots there were on 10/6/22 were insignificant and required nothing more than careful stepping. |

7/9/2022 Route: From Hoosier Pass Posted On: 7/9/2022, By: madmattd Info: Unsurprisingly, full summer conditions on Hoosier and the Reds. There's a couple small snowfields hanging around a short ways off-route if you really want to find some, probably not around for more than another week or so though. The use trail/herd path from the hard left turn on the road is quite well defined now with a decent-sized cairn marking it, and imo is a better option than continuing up the road and skirting just North of the willows (which I've done in the past). Solid path until it abruptly peters out around 12,400'. Sooooo many PUDs on the ridge! (To be fair I knew they were there...) |
