Route: Mill Creek Posted On: 10/12/2022, By: Marmot72 Info: Trail was dry all the way, then some snow on the ridge to W Elk. Snow was avoidable on much of the ridge and the summit, but the face beneath the summit of unranked 12,890 was covered in snow that was about 4-5 inches deep. We had a nice track from the Western State College trail running team, so no worries in our low tops. Aspens were at their peak; some down low were even still green, so likely the golden glory still shines this coming weekend. |

Route: Mill Castle Trail Posted On: 6/21/2021, By: amandaefaith Info: Summer conditions in the West Elk Wilderness. Creek crossing around 1.2 miles from the trail head required removing shoes, all other stream crossings were easy. One small snow field right as you gain Storm Peak Pass. Snow was soft enough we went over it with no traction but you could easily walk around it. Dry all along the ridge to West Elk's summit. |
