8/20/2022 Route: Via Rustler Gulch Posted On: 8/20/2022, By: supranihilest Info: Elks got some snow overnight. Rustler Gulch trail was very wet and muddy and had up to 3 inches of graupel in spots. Lessons from 13,010 were very helpful, so we wore hardshell pants all day to keep our legs dry. We took the trail to the steep, eroded drainage southwest of the lakes south of 13,140, going up climber's right of the drainage. Quite steep but mostly grass and dirt. A small amount of willows en route to the lower lake, then easier ground to the upper lake. From the upper lake we took grass to the left of a rocky gully, finding a use trail up to the final steep talus ascent to the summit. On return I thought it would be interesting to take the rocky gully down. It sucked, unsurprisingly, take the use trail back down. |
