Info: Teocalli Mountain, 12944, and 12560 are all in summer conditions with no snow or ice. If you're walking from the 2WD trailhead, there's no way to cross the first river crossing without getting wet.

Info: We parked at the river, the crossing in bare-feet was quite cold in the morning but not more than calf deep at the first crossing and then ankle deep the rest of the 100+ yards. Definitely could have been driven in a 4x4 truck or SUV, I saw a stock looking Dakota drive across it, if you make it past the creek, the rest of the way to the TH is actually easier. We saw two bikers riding the same direction we were walking right at the end of the road as we started up the trail. The elevation gain on this trail is quite pleasant and the views are great. The trail is dry and was a little dusty, easy walk up, it gets steep as you hit the climbers trail and up around 11,400 ft. From here you head straight up for 1k elevation gain before turning right (east) and gaining the edge of the ridge. At this point the view of Castle is quote excellent, my sister chose to stop here since she is from the east coast and not use to elevation. My mom and I continued upwards to the cliff bands and thru them. The scramble to the summit was pretty mild, especially for the elk range tho there was some loose rocks right at the summit. The final 10 ft of elevation is the only snow you have to touch all day to gain the summit. 10 miles from the river in 7:15 minutes with my east coast family who have never climbed a 13er before and a great day

Info: This is a rare easy route on an Elk 13er, and a beautiful one at that. I added the West Brush Creek trailhead to the site, and that's where this route begins. From the small parking area we started up the Teocalli Mountain Trail which at first starts heading northwest before curving sharply east and continuing along the open slopes on Teocalli's south side. Eventually it will enter the forest, where there's a couple inconsequential snowy and/or muddy spots. Approximately 1.65 miles from the trailhead you'll see a sign at the junction of the Teocalli Mountain Trail and Teocalli Ridge Trail. Turn left and continue on a trail behind a Wilderness boundary sign, and you'll soon arrive in a wide open area where the trail begins climbing steeply up Teocalli's south ridge. Follow the trail as it climbs, continuing through an easy break in the cliff bands high on the mountain, and continue across snow patches and talus to below the summit, where a sharp snow ridge covers the summit. We used microspikes for this last bit to the summit but they probably weren't necessary. All in all about 6.5 miles, 3,000 feet of gain, mostly Class 1 with some snow and Class 2 talus. Gear: axe not needed (a pole was useful for balance on the somewhat exposed snow at the summit), flotation not needed, microspikes potentially useful.

Info: Brush Creek Road from the Pearl Pass junction is very rocky, rutted and muddy (occasionally) to the TH at the base of Teocalli mountain. My standard 4 Runner bottomed a few times but we made it. Go slow and be careful. We found on the way out that it helps to have your passenger get out and direct you around the rocks and ruts. Very tough hike to the summit. Straight up from the junction where the mountain bikers begin their descent. The final push across the top to the true summit is extremely rocky (loose) and difficult. Route finding is hard across this section. There are some cairns but route finding was still challenging. Poles are very helpful. The wind was unrelenting at the summit. I think our total RT mileage was approximately 8.7 miles of hiking.

Info: Summer conditions. Splendidly simple and rewarding hike. Leaves are still popping with color around the W. Brush Creek drainage and even more so on/over Kebler Pass.

Info: Beautiful hike. Be prepared for plenty of mountain bikes. Great trail nearly the whole route. Turn left at the sign about 1.5 miles in. Driving to the upper TH I was thinking the whole time that I was glad I had my good 4wd with good clearance and AT tires. Then lo and behold we saw a friggin CRV up there. I wouldn't risk it myself but to each their own.

Info: Upper trailhead is accessible with a 4x4 vehicle. 4-5 inches of snow continuous to the cliff band. Loose unconsolidated powder. Wind drifts into the gully reaching 12-14 inches in depth. Upper ridge is blown mostly dry with snow in the gaps of the rocks.

Info: Summer conditions. But I was a dolt.... Road up to the TH requires clearance (if driving). There is one significant stream crossing, it is shallower to the right, as you are heading up the road (couldn't tell that from my vantage point, in the morning, and went straight across...don't do that). I thought the summit register (metal box) was locked, with a pad lock, but I think I was just an idiot or hypoxic. There is a padlock, but is probably just holding the chain on it. Clouds were building and I didn't spend much time looking at it. Hope you like wildflowers, because they are amazing right now!!!
