Peak Condition Updates

Route: North shoulder up, East face ski descent
Posted On: 4/28/2024, By: SnowAlien
Info: After a restful day at the hot springs the day before, I started from camp around 6.15 am the following morning, as the weather was forecasted to come in after noon. I wanted to see if I could ski 2, maybe 3 13ers, if the weather allows, since the approach was so short. Having done these peaks 5 years ago in dry conditions definitely helped with navigation, and generally what to expect. Directly from camp, I followed the direction towards the Triangle pass. I took the north shoulder, hoping I could skin it, but the corn was still frozen, so I switched to booting. I was still punching through, so the going was fairly slow. I finally topped out just before 9am, quickly transitioned a few feet below summit on a flat ridge spot and dropped down the still warming up East face in the general direction of the Triangle pass. There were a few steep turns, but it was over very quickly. I contoured towards Triangle pass trying to preserve elevation and transitioned back to skinning. 1/3 peaks done.

Route: Triangle->Hunter loop via Conundrum Hot Springs
Posted On: 8/31/2023, By: JasonKline
Info: From the Conundrum Hot Springs campsites, we did the Triangle Pass->Triangle->13216->13537->Hilliard->Keefe->Hunter loop. Still summer conditions. That was a long day (over 15 hours, something like 18 miles, plenty of vert, and a lot of slow, tedious ridgework) for a mere mortal like me. It's a long way from Keefe to Hunter, so I can definitely understand why many people do Hunter separately and I would probably do the same if I were to do it again. Also, when you descend the east ridge of Hunter, you receive a particularly nasty willow bushwhack as your reward before you reach the gorgeous trail back to the Conundrum Hot Springs.

Route: Northeast Slopes and North Ridge
Posted On: 7/6/2023, By: supranihilest
Info: From Triangle Pass I took the Conundrum Creek trail down a ways and eventually left it when it veered northeast, making my way more north directly under 13,216. There's still lots of snow on the trail and on the east side of 13,216. I found microspikes helpful (didn't need or want an axe today) ascending snow on 13,216's northeast face to grass, which then gave way to snow again where I put on microspikes a second time to the summit ridge. There's any number of possible ways to gain the summit ridge, attempting to describe them in detail would be pointless, just pick whatever you're comfortable with. The summit ridge looks wild but it's only Class 2 and super neat! Awesome peak. I descended the way I came up, back to Triangle Pass, and instead of taking the trail the entire way I cut off the first mile by traversing under "Triangle Peak"'s north face, heel skiing snow down to a small lake, and reascending to the trail there. Don't forget the five creek crossings on the way out on the Copper Creek trail.
