Condition Update

snow-wise it is very reasonable for winter conditions. no snowshoes, gaiters or microspikes needed. pretty bare overall above 12,000'.

I agree that the terrain is quite good, but I went up there today and turned around because of the miserable wind. The wind was strong enough to knock me off balance and send my poor beanie flying into the abyss. :o

Stay on the east side for Mt. Lady Washington

On our ascent of Mt. Lady Washington yesterday (Jan. 6, 2013), we noticed a fair number of people apparently heading for the summit by staying on the trail to the north before heading up the peak. Judging by the summit winds and our change of plan for the descent **, I would say it is much less windy on the east ridge. This involves more off-trail travel, but it's worth it for the tradeoff in wind.

**We had started to descend toward the obvious trail to the north, thinking it would be easier to eventually walk on a path. We were being knocked from our feet at the summit and on the north side, and quickly realized our mistake. We re-routed to the south and had a much easier time going down the east ridge.
