Condition Update

Mostly packed trail/ trough from 2WD TH all the way to ridge except for the clearing just before treeline-- test for the packed trail somewhere to your right! It was obscured by fresh snow so we missed it on the way up, but it's there somewhere... Don't venture into the left/middle as we did--> sank in hip-deep pow despite snowshoes = exhausting. Found the packed trail on the way back. I'd recommend keeping snowshoes on until after passing the "small point" on your left above treeline (12,500'~+ ). Not much snow on the ridge so Microspikes or bareboot thereafter ok.

Thanks! We have a group of three doing Elbert on Friday (2/17) or Saturday (2/18). How did you handle the upper east face? Standard route or stay to the right? There were some avalanche concerns expressed by others up there.

Not that much snow on the upper bowl. Plenty of space to pick your path up without avy danger (at least not on 2/11). I'll upload a couple more pics... Good luck!

snowshoes on the 4wd road?

Does anyone know if the 4wd road beyond the 2wd TH will require snowshoes or just boots? We will have snowshoes along for the trail through the trees.

last Sat. we barebooted from the 2WD TH to 4WD TH, then snowshoed from there...
