Wetterhorn Peak was named by Lieutenant William Marshall of the Wheeler Survey of 1874, who was apparently inspired by the European mountain of the same name. The original Wetterhorn (12,153 ft.) lies in the Bernese Oberland in south central Switzerland, near the town of Grindelwald, and was first climbed by Englishman S.T. Spear in 1854. "Wetterhorn" is German for "weather peak." |
