Re: Michelle Vanek
That's an odd article. A father and his son find Vanek's boot beneath a cliff, pointing searchers to the new area, and the article turns it into an engendered statement about feminine intuition, additionally guided by another man's dream about women..
Furthermore, the article severely discredits phenomenal efforts and thought made by hundreds of people against a tight deadline, and attributes previous failures to male egoism and shortcomings. It seems there are other ways to make a statement than portraying SAR as a bunch of misogynistic sheep.

Re: Michelle Vanek
Living in the Vail area this has been in the news for the past 20 years. One of my friends was on the women's search team. I was a little skeptical that they would find anything after 19 years. But, very proud of what she and her teammates accomplished. All SAR members deserve our respect. No one is putting the male members down but it's a fact that a women's team delivered.
Re: Michelle Vanek
Heres a quote from the article "“The Michelle Vanek case had historically been dominated by males,” she wrote. “The initial eight-day search…and every effort in between has only been run by males. Personally, I don’t think Michelle wants to be found by a man.” "Monster5 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 11, 2025 8:58 pm That's an odd article. The fact that they found her is incredible, but the way the article is written is kinda cringe.

Re: Michelle Vanek
Interesting article. But I agree it was kinda strange the way it was written
Re: Michelle Vanek
I am glad that Michelle was found. Dr. Ben has been my dentist for the past 15 or so years and is a very good man.

Re: Michelle Vanek
The article has some oddities, but it's really just two or three paragraphs. The rest some good information.
I also find it a bit odd and maybe the rescuers really think that the victim wanted to be found by a woman. If they really believe that, I still find it odd but don't see much harm in them believing in that or in the dream.

“It was mid-afternoon when (Zach) Smith shouted to her. The piece of fabric he’d seen matched the description of the red shirt Vanek had been wearing.”
Considering how the article is written it’s beautifully ironic that a man found the remains.

Re: Michelle Vanek
Glad they found her.
The article mentions that lost females generally get a lot more attention than lost males. The first one that comes to mind only because he is from Arvada where I am from his Mark Stice. Mark went missing in 2013 in the south colony Lakes area, I don’t recall any other media coverage once the search was called off. Mark was also married and had young children if I recall.
