Mount Massive Conditions for Memorial Day Weekend

Post by LukeMazza20 »

I am interested in doing Massive, particularly the Southwest Slopes Route, over Memorial Day, but I'm unsure of what the conditions are. I haven't seen many updates on here about the conditions on Massive or its southwest slopes route. I was wondering if anyone has done it recently or has an idea of what the conditions on the southwest slopes are?

Thank you!! :)

If there's no conditions reports posted it means either the weather has been too bad for anyone to go up within the last month, which doesn't apply here, or there's too much snow for the hikers and two little snow for the skiers.

I was up on Elbert last Sunday monday and up above 11k today. Consolidated snow below treeline becomes unavoidable above about 11.2k ridgelines and southern aspects could be free. Above treeline more areas of snow free, but still plenty of snow fields.

Start early, bring snowsheos, pray for a cool and cloudy day.

Might be late information? I skied Oklahoma today, so shared approach for a bit. Trail was dry with sections of snow that had old posthole landmines. Could just step carefully on those without flotation. Above the split I can't help you other than Massive is a lot drier than Oklahoma. You might be good with just micro spikes?
