I read an article recently on doing 14 of the 14’ers in 24 hours. A few friends and I are in pretty good shape (all exercise/nutrition professionals) and though are all pretty academically inclined, our hubris and need to test our boundaries have made us entertain attempting this on short notice. The exercise, fueling, and mental fortitude aren’t a problem the logistics however are and that’s where I’d like some insight. Before you respond with negativity I’ll just ignore it so save your time. I just want cold hard opinions on attempting such an endeavor. Keep it simple and understand we’re people that help people execute athletic performance and endeavors on the highest stages for a living so we all don’t get phased by the thought of difficult physical tasks, we plan and execute them.
With that said, what’s the best route logistically to attempt this? We are entertaining the same route that couple in 2012 did, we just need to understand the process of attempting it and what we need. We’ve all climbed and hiked a bit and are nuts so just assume we’ll be game to go for it no matter how stupid it is, again we just need some seasoned opinions on how to do it if one would be doing it. We want to drive out, hammer it for 24 hours and let the chips fall where they may. So by all means let’s hear some advice on how to go about such a thing.
I want to do something stupid please encourage me

See the "peaks in 24 hours" tab. Andrea Sansone has the current overall record at 12. The page for that attempt has an in-depth discussion of the logistics of her attempt. Info on previous records on that page should also give you some good logistical info.
Not sure what article you're looking at listing 14 in 24.

For sure reach out to Andrea Sansone and Andrew Hamilton (both are on this site) - although they are current record holders, they have been absolutely awesome in the past about encouraging and even helping others to break (or try to break) their own records.
And you won't find anyone better at planning logistics for insane mountain feats than these two...

14 14ers? You may be thinking of the Nolan's 14. Google that for map or other info.
Requires endurance and logistics for well beyond 24 h.

No, I'm pretty sure they're talking about the FKT for most 14ers climbed in a 24hr period. Current record is 12 set by andreasansone. She smashed the previous record, now these guys seem to want to notch it up by a couple more.
Brutal, insane task only conceivable for the most outrageously fit individuals with epic endurance but it's not completely outside the realm of possibility. It's also probably equal parts logistics vs endurance given how high the bar has been set...

Gain experience in climbing mountains and training for several years, do any kind of logistics research on which peaks are part of the plan and what order to do them in, stay hydrated and make sure to keep your feet dry. Simple enough for those with hubris and who understand executing on athletic performances and endeavors on the highest stages!Matz wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 1:11 am I read an article recently on doing 14 of the 14’ers in 24 hours. Sarcasm or not, it's not even funny to post something like this. Not at this time. Reported.

Re: I want to do something stupid please encourage me
Is this a post to actually solicit advice, or is it subtle bragging wrapped in a request for advice? This ain't Kilian Jornet's Alps 4000m project. Just pick a bunch of 14ers close to each other, hike up and see how long it takes. If you want to go for 10+ in 24 hours the northern Sawatch and Ten-Squito-I70 group is the only area in the state that has enough peaks close enough together that don't take too long to do. Massive, Sherman, Decalibron, Quandary, GT, Bierstadt, Blue Sky is 11. Try that first. The only real logistical challenge is a vehicle that can go over Mosquito or Weston Pass so you don't have to go through BV to get from Sherman to CO9. All the summits are walk-ups and September is the best weather month of the whole year to do this.

I'd try Shavano/Tabeguache, Sherman, Decalibron, Quandary, G&T, Bierstadt... Blue Sky if still in the running.

DeCaLiBron would not be good for this. Cameron wouldn't count and it would be silly to count a bypass as one of your summits.

What makes you so sure? They said "I read an article recently on doing 14 of the 14’ers in 24 hours." Seems to me it's 50/50 that they got either the time or the number wrong. (Especially since their request does not express significant background knowledge on the topic otherwise).daway8 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 9:46 amNo, I'm pretty sure they're talking about the FKT for most 14ers climbed in a 24hr period. Might be helpful if the OP discloses his proposed list of 14ers.
Also, OP, have you done any 14ers, or do you have much experience with activities above treeline?
