Does anyone have suggestions for heated socks that hold up well?
I've never tried them, but I am considering getting a pair. Hoping to find something that's not ultra bulky. Would use for ice climbing and the occasional winter peak.
Thanks, db

Re: your favorite heated sock
Lenz look dope but that price. I've been making a vapor barrier with a turkey bag and a sock liner work.

I used some earlier generation Lenz socks on Denali, they worked great. They're pricey, but they definitely work.

I have the Black Squid and debuted them last year during the winter opener along with heated gloves. I returned the gloves and the socks were superstars all last season. I used chemical warmers on Denali and wished I had the socks instead.
Also another blazin secret, powder your toes before and wear a thin liner. This helps with schweddy feet.
I haven’t taken them out on a multi day yet and managing the batteries adds more complexity to the already high workload.
One last thing, if you wear gaiters you can’t get to the battery or settings easily.

I'm already seeing holiday commercials on TV, so I suppose 'tis the season for tasty treats!blazintoes wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 2:03 pm Also another blazin secret, powder your toes before and wear a thin liner. This helps with schweddy feet.
And after freezing my toes off at the Broncos game yesterday (all the while thinking I'm becoming too old for this), I might need to review this thread thoroughly.
Re: your favorite heated sock
I have had Lenz for two seasons and absolutely love them. I use them nearly every weekend in the winter skiing & ice climbing.

My wife has been using the therm-ic socks for the past few seasons and has really enjoyed them. Mostly for resort skiing and a time or two for ice climbing.

Re: your favorite heated sock
i got the ones costco was selling last yr and loved them. hoping they bring them back to get a 2nd pair this yr
as for foot powder, a lot of the sock companies say not to do that as it interferes with the wicking on the sock- dry max and darn tough i have super sweaty feet and im thinking of just getting a new pair that is just powder only socks, the foot powder from Lush is amazing, i use it for my work shoes in summer.
i also saw a warning about the batteries interfering with Avy beacons but lost the link to that info, does anyone have any updates on that?

As long as your beacon is more than a foot, or so, away from your socks, you should be fine. Your phone is a bigger source of interference/noise anyway.

Re: your favorite heated sock
Do heated socks have better performance than those adhesive chemical foot/toe warmers? I saw one last weekend that advertised a slower 6-8h heat release when the warmer comes in contact with oxygen. Only $2 for a pair at REI.
I would have to assume that the battery-powered heated socks can much more easily be turned on/off, which would greatly help with moisture management and temperature regulation within the hiking shoe. I am also not sure how the sticky strip feels within a hiking shoe (stick it under or on top of the foot??), but that could be a mess and/or cause blisters.

Re: your favorite heated sock
Personally, I don't trust those chemical warmers to always work. And they feel like a lump in my boot. I just haven't had great success with them.ECF55 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 8:33 am Do heated socks have better performance than those adhesive chemical foot/toe warmers? Re: your favorite heated sock
for boarding and hiking, before heated sock i always put the warmers on top of my foot, less bug then being under the toes. but im all heated sock now. i like the option to regulate temp (it has an app so i can manage the heat levels from my phone) and mine last between 6-8hrs so good for the cold of the morning and life saver for boarding and ice climbing when your not moving much.
i have raynauds and have to be extra careful in winter with my fingers and toes.
