Jason and I were climbing together on Gannett Peak last weekend and in the most devasting way possible, he suffered an accident on the North Headwall, most likely due to loose rock and the mountain stole his life at 9AM on 8/27. He had a passion for the outdoors, love for the mountains of Colorado and had recently moved to Grand Junction to start a new chapter in his life with his girlfriend, Kasey. Jason and I met on Ellingwood Ridge of La Plata a few years back in some of the worst air quality I have ever experienced and bonded over the type 3 fun of that ridge + horrific weather. Most recently, he had lived in Jackson, WY where he was working for the Teton School of Science trying to help others gain an understanding and passion for the outdoors. While in Jackson, Jason tackled a bunch of the local spots including the Tetons and Teewinot.
I am posting this to honor and memorialize Jason and also to reiterate the extremely difficult/dangerous conditions on Gannett Peak. For those who want more information or looking to donate to help his family and girlfriend out, you can read more here: https://www.stanleyedenburn.com/obitua ... on-graves
Thank you
In Memory of Jason Graves

I’m sorry for your loss. Jason seemed like a great guy, stolen away far too young.

So sorry to hear this. I've been where you are, having seen the fatal fall of a partner 2 years ago.
Keep your head up, and stay strong. Please reach out to me if you feel the need. Talking and writing about the incident was (and still is) hugely helpful.

My deepest condolences to you and all of Jason's family and friends. From what I've read and seen, he seemed like a great person and someone I would've loved to climb with. There's nothing I can say or think to make an accident like this less tragic. Know that Jason and everyone around him is in our thoughts.

Re: In Memory of Jason Graves
My condolences to you and to all those who loved the recently departed. The Wind rivers are certainly beautiful mountains but rugged and unforgiving. I did Ganett peak 2 years and what little I could see of the north side looked very daunting.
