Ski with a Buddy

Post by greenonion »

Dumb ol boomer here. Hope the link from Insta below works.

Good reminder here that being with someone in the backcountry while skiing/boarding, and other activities, is a real good idea. Dude here could have died…

As someone who primarily skis BC solo, I do not like seeing this.
Make wilderness less accessible.

WOW!
- I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was blaming you.

Ooof. It helps if you ski better, too.

If you can't run, you walk
If you can't walk, you crawl
If you can't crawl, you find someone to carry you

I got pretty deep into a tree well one day, not quite upside down but past horizontal.
Took a while to get out, couldn't push down, and it was a little scary. Eventually built up a little platform of packed snow to where I could twist.
With the deep powder everything was muffled, too, just so quiet. Could have gone really badly. Friends had no idea where I was up the hill from them.

Damn. Glad you got out. That’s scary stuff. The video I posted and your story, shows it can go bad easier than expected, or even thought of.

Nope, not me. Just sharing as cautionary. He looked pretty packed in, so who knows, but all turned out fine.

The video that popper up after that in the viewer was even crazier I'm glad everyone was OK in both.
