Rescue After 500' Fall on Mt. Yale

Post by kwhit24 »

Happened Friday night off East Ridge route. Broken bones, head injury, hypothermia and frostbite due to the extreme conditions. Glad there was a good out come here and her hiking partner was able to activate the emergency beacon on their InReach.

Hats off to the SAR team that was out there over night and got them supplies until the helicopter could get them out safely in the morning!

The write up of the rescue is one of the better SAR stories I have read.

Hope the fallen climber comes out of it ok.

Wow. 12400' (as reported, probably to be taken with a grain of salt) is not all that far into the ridge - I think the turnoff from the CT is at 11,700. 500' is a tremendous fall all the way to treeline.

Wow, that's an amazing rescue story! Hope she's able to fully recover, though it sounds like it will certainly be a very long road to recovery...
