Anybody been up or know the current conditions of the Snowmass Lake approach to Snowmass Mountain? Would snowshoes be worth bringing? Or is the trail patchy in places with snow. What about the creek crossing?
Thanks in advance!
~Eric

Re: Snowmass Lake Approach Conditions
Hoping
that I'll get next weekend off for Snowmass!
If I were to venture a guess, I'd say dry and muddy down below.
The stream crossing should be a nightmare
Deep and wet snow high up. Consolidation is probably gonna be a crapshoot.
If I can go, I'll be bringing snowshoes for higher up (and the hike out...afternoon deep snow). Still tossing around the idea whether or not to bring points.
Just picked up some brand new mountaineering boots that need breaking in! :D

Re: Snowmass Lake Approach Conditions
Sorry I can't comment on current conditions, but you've brought back some nightmares I still have from two years ago.
We did it in JUNE and there was still a ton of snow on the ground. It was a 8 mile slog across on a permanent 15-degree sideslope as we traveled up the drainage. It absolutely sucked on skis. I don't know if snowshoes will do you well in the afternoon because it may be very deep and wet.
Have fun! :D
