Nolans Stuff

Post by andreasansone »

Not sure if anyone really follows Nolans on this site anymore, BUT, Francois (dhaene)? of France is headed out for an overall FKT attempt, I don't know what he is using to track, but his Instagram is francois_dhaene. His projected start is July 3 (pending weather conditions). Erin Ton the same, her first goal is women's record though. I think her projected start is July 5-9 weather depending.

I figure I could start a thread as I will be in Alaska in the Brooks range out of service until July 13, so I won't be able to follow. Hopefully, I come back to some fun things on here to catch up on, and maybe those who like following these attempts would like to discuss it here. Anyways, good luck to these guys, and we will see how it all shakes out.

I'm looking forward to Francois's and other future attempts of the route. I've been doing my best to collate summit/split times of the route S->N in an attempt to figure out what sort of pace you need to both finish and set the FKT. There's really haven't been a whole lot of finishers, so the datum is kind of spotty to make definite predictions, but interesting nonetheless.

That’s cool!! Did you accidentally leave out the current women fkt holders? sansone and Horanyi? Maybe you’re still working on it- I feel like you left out some of the top finishers… and there is some good data in there. I know sansone has splits written out on her FKT report

If you go to Mahoney’s site, you can get a good list of people who finished too and the FKT site reports has good info but you probably already know that

I'll add them if you have the splits for me, I've done a call for splits a few times. Unfortunately, many of the splits and times were only recorded (and publicly shared) using an inreach, so once the history is taken off the device/service, that data is gone. You can see that with the individual FKTs on the site. For example:

https://fastestknowntime.com/fkt/eszter ... 2023-09-10

https://fastestknowntime.com/fkt/andrea ... 2022-09-12

Historically, that's too bad, but the FKT site accepts the general inreach link. Takes just a minute to export that out and save it as a GPX. Many of the14er records are the same.

Yup, I've scoured it looking for reasonable data. No style, individual, or gender prejudice should be implied, although I am only collating S->N. Show me the data!

That was on the FKT site from the trip report. You probably won’t get much more detailed than that from anyone else’s report.

Thanks! I'll add it. You've been more actively helpful than everyone that's run Nolans combined.

Sorry Justin! man, if you tried to contact Andrew he can be pretty bad for getting a hold of. You can contact me, sorry if we missed your calls/messages. Not intentional!

Thanks for doing that :)Appreciate your time you put into Nolan’s to help the route become more manageable to many people. You rock!

For those who don't know, Francois is an ultrarunning legend. He's won Hardrock as well as being a 4x winner of UTMB. He's also done FKT's on the John Muir trail as well as the GR20 (Corsica). He's battled with Killian and Jim Walmsley on many occasions. And, he's just a kind and awesome human being. Best wishes to him!!

Good luck to Francois and everyone else on the route this year! I always enjoy seeing how people do out there.

I'm planning to get out there this fall but would be happy with "just" a Slowlans finish given some training obstacles this year.
