thanks...

It depends...is the best answer. Designated wilderness and national parks, yes drones are not allowed. Technically you can stand outside of wilderness/park boundaries and fly over and that would be a legal flight, although definitely skirting the rules. A national park has no jurisdiction over airspace, only the FAA does. They have as much control over a drone over their airspace as they do a jet at 30k feet. Yes, they can ban flights taking off within their boundaries but that's the extent of it.
Anything outside of designated wilderness and national parks is fair game, as long as you are not within 5 miles of an airport. I shot this video in Moab this year, all clips are legal flights.
Who gives a s**t!? Government thinks they can control every aspect of our lives. As if we couldn't make it without them. Keep sending those amazing pics!

Having recently been on vacation in Iceland and seeing a number of idiots flying drones I'd gladly shoot them down if it was allowed. They are obnoxious and ridiculous in many cases. They are starting to ban them there as well.
Now, if you're a responsible drone user and aren't buzzing over the heads of people at a crowded tourist spot or bothering wildlife I'll give you slightly more leeway. Slightly.

I have no issue with them not being allowed in certain areas. I wish all drone pilots flew legally and respectfully, then there wouldn't be such a need to clamp down.
Were they doing something idiotic, or do you deem them idiots for merely legally flying one?
*edit*
I see you edited your post. Well, I guess those of us who fly legally and respectively are still held in very low regard in your eyes. My apologies in advance for all future drone photos/videos I produce.

All the ones we saw were flying at popular tourist locations within 50-100 feet of people. In one case the pilot was having his drone follow some seals around a glacier lagoon. The operators seemed completely oblivious to people being annoyed by them.
People aren't necessarily idiots for flying them. But unfortunately my interactions with drones have almost entirely been negative.

Well, I just gave you a positive interaction by seeing a nice fall foliage photo that didn't bother a soul. So put that in the win column for me.

Of course they are banned in National Parks, it's exactly the type of thing that can ruin the communion with nature that most people are desperately lacking.
However, it is an excellent video that Somewhat of a Prick has shared with us, and does not appear to have annoyed anyone. Maybe we just need some sort of exam requirement, prior to purchase, that can prove the buyer has a conscience.
Edit: in hindsight I realize my post accidentally implied his drone footage may be illegal, my apologies.

Thanks :D
For what it's worth all of the Utah footage, as well as anything I shoot, is done legally. (not that you claimed it wasn't)
Anyone been up in the Aspen/Crested Butte area over the last week? Was going to go up to Aspen this weekend to MTB but it looks like the weather is keeping things a little too damp. Would next weekend be too late on the colors?

We probably peaked close to CB right before this storm arrived and blew some of the leaves down- but there is still a ton of color and even some green leaves around. Kebler always peaks a week or so later, so it will definitely be good next weekend. Plus CBMBA did some work on the Dyke trail this summer
