Who knows what the road will look like after 5 years? You used to be able to get a sedan pretty close. The last couple miles definitely required higher clearance, but not really 4WD... as long as the road was dry.

I drove the road last year in spring and made it 2.5 mi from the summer TH in a Honda Pilot before being stopped by snow and a big bump (the drainage pipe). For a 4WD vehicle, the road is hard but doable- for a sedan I wouldn't recommend it. It's definitely in need of some work to make it sedan-able into the national forest. Less brave drivers such as myself might not even make it past the pipe in a crossover/lower clearance 4WD vehicle.

This is what I am trying to gauge with a base AWD RAV4. How far will it be able to go. Caltopo and Cotrex are also showing me slightly different for what's public vs private property. Is that 2.5 mile road in public lands? (sorry, I have no idea how to resize the images to be smaller)

I drove the road last September in our Honda Pilot AWD. I think you should be able to drive to an area approx 1 mile from the TH in your RAV4. There are several campsites there with fire rings, etc. and a creek 100 feet away. At this point the road gets significantly steeper and rougher and I wouldn't try it without high clearance 4WD. There are also a couple of deep muddy ruts before this point, but again you should be fine in a RAV4. Keep in mind that I was there late in the season - it could be a different story earlier in the summer.

Count me among those - been waiting patiently on Lindsey since around the time it closed, and now getting close to finishing. Hoping that the ridge will also be confirmed as a legal option, but if not plans to snow climb the gully are in the works!

Thanks Bill for chasing down the details pending an announcement!

I’m guessing there will be some other formal announcement via CFI or other outlet.

This is exciting news!

More to come…
Excellent! Been waiting to get a flake and lap2 - would be awesome if the opening is confirmed in time to get both at once!

This is exciting, as Lindsey is one of the 9 that I have left, and would also let me delay PYRAMID AND NORTH MAROON A LITTLE LONGER, as exposure on those peaks is no longer as exciting at 65, as it was in my thirties.

So you're saying it will be exciting again at 66? Or 67?
