Great work Alex!
Once you rest up I'm very interested in hearing about your sleep strategy and time of year. The limited daylight seems like an obstacle, but not for you!
I didn't realize so few people had done Holy Nolan's, it's definitely an impressive add-on to the main 14.

Alex is now ready to take on my dream route of Pikes to Longs, ridge direct.
This was crazy impressive!

That is an amazing feat. Congratulations, Alex!!
But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Pikes is cut off from the rest of the front range by the south platte river, so I think doing this "ridge direct" would involve heading west until you hit the mosquito range, then going to Hoosier pass and then to longs. The "head west" section would probably be very unpleasant.

Thank you all for the encouragement and kind words! I refreshed the forum thread almost every time I got service, and it really helped during some low moments.
Nolan's 14 was such a fun adventure, and adding on Holy Cross made it perhaps the most physically-intense challenge of my life. There are no words to describe how thoroughly pulverized my legs were before that final climb, much less afterwards!
I submitted the record to Fastest Known Time yesterday, and I'll post another update once it gets approved. I also spent all day writing up a full trip report about every aspect of the attempt; you can now read it here: https://www.14ers.com/php14ers/triprepo ... trip=22871

Congrats on the achievement, it was fun to track.
Just out of curiosity, what's your athletic background? Did you run track through high school or college? And do you have thoughts of, or have you run, races, such as the Boston Marathon or the Hardrock 100?

Thank you! I started running track and cross country in high school, then got into trail running and endurance hiking/peakbagging on my own afterwards. Since then, I've spent every winter/spring training for a few shorter trail/ultra races (here's my Ultrasignup results), then I use that fitness for my summer mountain adventures.DArcyS wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:38 pm Congrats on the achievement, it was fun to track.

I'd love to try some of the more famous ultra races like Hardrock if they weren't so impossible to get into! So far I've only gotten into one 100-miler (Run Rabbit Run), which I finished in 28.5 hours in 2021. I know I could run one a lot faster now with more experience; hopefully 4th time will be a charm with the Leadville 100 lottery next year.
