Does anyone have any stats on the loop he did today? Looks like quite an impressive feat, and I'm curious what the mileage and gain are for it. I plugged it into Gaia but with the off-trail traverses he did I don't trust its accuracy too much.
Someone else may have better stats. I did just KC and Challenger (plus all the 13ers) from South Colony 4x4 TH and that was like 17 miles and 7500 ft of gain IIRC. Sprinkling Humboldt and the Crestones on top of that surely puts it in the 25 miles 10k+ range. I can't even imagine , what an animal. Go Dan Go!

Curious, why would he not have taken the SE Gully on Humboldt, as seen on previous FKT routes, instead of having to double back?

I’m guessing he didn’t know about it, neither did I! Oh well something else to go scout out, sigh.
I did tell him about the great class 3/4/5 (choose your own adventure) route directly from Challenger to Kit Carson avoiding the Avenue and he took that and said he loved it. It’s really a great way to go from challenger to Kit Carson if you are comfortable with some exposure.

Here's a track doing this from the 2wd TH but using the SE gully on Humboldt: 20.04 miles and 12,669' of gain. The split/lap on that from the 4wd TH is 14.84 miles and looks like that'd be roughly 11,600' of gain. Dan's route today using the west ridge of Humboldt and going higher on Obstruction in both directions would be a bit more distance and gain than that.

Is that the final pitch of the prow?
Not really. I believe the route Andrew mentioned and that Dan took today goes directly from the Challenger/Kit saddle up the NW face of Kit. The last bit of the Prow is from near the high point of the Avenue and goes up the SW side of the top of Kit. (I said "Not really" because I know of one party that finished the Prow with that NW face years ago in winter.)

Looks like he's crushing some sleep right now. Hasn't moved since 651pm. Just a cat nap before driving to the Elks?
Is he going straight to the elks? Seems like he could knock out some southern Sawatch first en route.

Oh I have no idea! I figured the Elks, but was wondering about the southern Sawatch as you said. I'm sure you are right! If it were me I might prefer the Elks earlier due to their dangerous nature, but I'm a mere mortal.

His first post said he would do Pikes after the Sangres, then the southern Sawatch, then the Elks.
If he does the Barr trail, he'll have to compete with the peanut pusher. https://www.manitouspringsgov.com/735/P ... r-Progress

Crags is closer and less RT mileage than Barr. Then he’ll prob go to Shav-Tab and knock out the southern Sawatch. That’s where I got caught in an electrical storm and the wheels fell off.
Dan has a day on me though with his Handies/RC/SS all-nighter so he has some weather insurance built in now. Just needs to be consistent and he’s got it.

I know - it was a bad joke.
