Glad that you learned from your mistake. Seems like in this day and age we can always find some excuse to not like someone. Whether it’s the way they act, or they’ve disagreed with us a few times in the forum here, political / religious differences, or maybe we hiked with someone and just didn’t get along. Maybe I’m biased because I’m an old guy struggling to the finish of the 14er list with growing doubts but as a forum community I think we should avoid mocking or making fun of any situation where someone falls short of a goal. Not every goal can be accomplished; that’s what makes them special. Whether it’s an FKT attempt, a checklister like me, or a tourist who turns back from a Bierstadt summit due to lightning, no one wants to fall short of a goal. It’s an unpleasant thing to process. It’s probably best to avoid picking on anyone who sets out to accomplish something and comes up a bit short because it will happen to all of us at some point in some walk of life.

So well said and true-there is too much meanness out there. Everyone is on their own journey.

+1 to the above - sure the individual in question made some public blunders in the past but is there anyone on here who has never done something stupid in their entire life?

I think there was plenty enough of a beating given to this individual after the previous controversy. How about we let the past be past and judge based on how things are done going forward?

I mean if there's a repeat of past issues then go ahead and open fire, but how about giving a person the benefit of the doubt until such a time?

She's an incredible athlete and has probably learned from her mistake. I'm all for giving second chances.

Well, I think the problem is that although the mistake was a while ago, it doesn't appear that she's taken any accountability for what went wrong. I also think that when you put yourself out there publicly (whether that's as small as a trip report online, or whether you are a pro athlete full-time), you're fair game for criticism. Those who seek public recognition for their accomplishments have to deal with public backlash when they screw up in their pursuit of them. It should be proportional, and certain criticism can absolutely be out of bounds, but there's nothing wrong with criticizing the FKT folks if they're harassing hikers, skipping summits, etc...

Anyway, let's see how many people she berates en route to whatever record comes next

Yea, you must be a piece of work too.

I hike/run with her 5/7 days a week (or more) and we run into 10s if not 100s of people a week where she holds real conversations with random people and encourages them and lifts them up.

It’s funny that you actually think she just goes around and berates people on purpose. Move on dude.

Well, some of Erin's disparaging comments about fellow hikers, along with her trespassing of certain peaks, are still remembered, and don't sit well with some of us, myself included. I don't doubt her incredible stamina and athletic talents, but her past behavior is not something I consider admirable.

Hopefully she recovers fully from this recent effort.
