It would have been more artistic if you featured more of the scenery and less of the "Dancing with the Stars", "Look what's for dinner", and the outdoor ad for Dave's Bubble World. Just Sayin! Maybe we will see you on Ridicolousness in the near future. Nothing wrong with having fun out there, but don't send the wrong message. These places are not Theme Parks. I sincerely hope you packed out all that trash my man!
I usually have a chance to feature more scenery shots in my video, but due to weather I had to get creative. Since we got rained out, we had time to hang around camp, relax, and have fun. I disagree, and view these places as natures theme park.... Are you not supposed to have fun? I was taught to be respectful of the environment, other people, and no one should have a problem with it.
I always pack out all of my trash during any backpack, while abiding by any rules and regulations of the Wilderness area.
Not sure where having fun out there became a problem. Keep kicking down cairns and being masters of the universe.
If you don't like my videos, don't watch them. (Considering there is a YouTube video option embedded in these forum for the exact reason of posting YouTube videos)
To those who do watch them and enjoy, Thank You and I appreciate the support.
Safe trails!
Why didn't you use the youtube embed feature?
I actually didn't watch your video, for the record.

Why is everyone so cranky?
For real, right?
Clearly I will not post anymore.
You're actually the one who is cranky. You got called to the mat about your "self-promotion" (which you have since edited out your begging for you tube subscribers). I also shared when the "best" time to go is, which you seemingly got pissed about.
I totally get the general criticism in this thread regarding the youtube link/self-promotion. However:
1. I think the poster is correct that August is not the best time of year for this hike. Much of it is over slickrock and gets extremely hot, while some of the rest has flash flood potential which I believe is much worse in August. Most years, Memorial Day time-frame is a good time to plan on (although this year the forecast was bad that weekend and there was way more water than normal, as the poster stated).
2. I was actually planning on doing this very hike the week after the poster, and I was worried about the water levels down there with my 11-year-old son, so I asked about the conditions on a different forum that has more Utah people. This poster gave a very detailed and helpful response on that site and helped me alter my plans at the last minute, for which I am very grateful.
This forum would be a lot better if people could give criticism in a more polite and civil manner. If you actually want people to change, berating them and making fun of them won't be very effective.

Actually, to me it looked like you instantly derailed this thread by being a douchebag about his youtube link, and then tried to tell him he did this hike at the wrong time of year just because you did it differently, the implication being that he's a moron and you're basically Reinhold Messner. So your superiority complex kind of put this thread in the shitter from the get-go, which seems to happen a lot when you show up in threads, coincidentally.

Hmmm...lots of name calling and assumptions being made. You didn't say cranky though....
A number of years ago in New Hampshire, I picked up a couple of AT thru-hikers who asked for a ride into town for the night.
I jokingly told them, Sure, but you have to tell me about your hike! I’m vicariously living it through you!
That was before major health and life changes made it possible for me to do my own adventuring.
I liked mikjik86’s video – it let this older gal vicariously get a taste of something I’ll never experience in real life: a fun trip with six guys making the best of the hiking/weather challenges and still appreciating the scenery, the comradery, the craft beer, and the great food.
No doubt I’m not their desired audience, but I subscribed and liked. Didn’t cost me anything and I’m looking forward to his future videos.
If he’d just made a 14ers account to get YouTube subscribers, then criticism might be warranted. But he’s been part of the community since at least 2013!
Why shouldn’t his goals get support just as much as those of the more prominent members on the forum?
My rule of thumb on 14ers.com is simple: If it doesn’t bother Bill, I try not to let it bother me, though sometimes I have to take a deep breath and walk away.

+ 1
First guy shares, second guy for no apparent reason comes across (even if not intended) as a condescending prick. Then second guy even piles on ("Why didn't you use the youtube embed feature? ")
Nothing wrong with having fun out there at all. That's why we do these activities out there. A couple of things I have questions about though. In your vid, I see a guy doing a hand stand on the trail, a behavior I think is a little over the top, especially for a young person to see, copycat and think that is a normal act to do on the trails. What are the consequences if someone falls and breaks their leg, or rolls off the trail down the slope. Hiking and exploring has it's own risks, but lets not encourage people to do silly stunts for the camera to impress us all. Maybe you could add a disclaimer stating that fact onto your vid?
The other point is, yes your vid has a nice soundtrack added to it. I just want to know if you were blaring your music for all to hear as you were making this vid. All your buddies seem to be grooving to something? It seems to be more common for hikers to blare their music and ruin other users experiences these days. I hope you are aware of this as part of the LNT. Officially or unofficially, I think it should be a part of the protocol. It's just common courtesy out of respect for others, just like picking up your trash! And btw, thanks for doing that, we all appreciate you leaving it as you found it.
Lastly, don't stop posting, I probably came across too critical, but it was just criticism, I apologize for the harshness. Write TR's and embed them in there and we will all have a better format from which to view and enjoy.

This reads like a 14ers.com circlejerk comment. Handstands too risky? I, for one, feel that walking on feet is too risky. Too great a chance of rolling an ankle. Handstands solve that problem! Who has ever heard of a rolled wrist?

gettin past 100 posts in a place where people respond with more than a thumbs up and smiley, rosy cheeked emojis requires some thicker skin than that
Agreed, lurid.
It's an interwebz forum for god's sake. If you don't expect some numbnut to criticize you for something they perceive is stupid, or for your actual stupidity, clearly you haven't been paying attention.

All of you posting your negativity are literally gaining nothing and just filling this paid with unwanted criticism. If you dont like the idea of making videos to show people your journeys out in the wilderness then dont watch. This guy isnt making any money, not forcing you to do anything or promoting any negative activities unless you are against doing handstands cause you could get hurt well if your worried about getting hurt its probably best to never go outside. The advertising on the title seems pretty spot on to me. I can see the confusion because the canyon and area is called Death Hollow but if your upset you didnt see any death or life threating activities your problems route much deeper. Assuming they didnt pack out their trash is childish and if your worried about hearing music on a trail you can hike at a different pace, these guys showed no signs of blaring any music or anything and were only dancing when at camp, also, they were in a flooded out canyon in Utah so its easy to assume they were not bothering anyone I personally hate being next to people out on the trail so I hike at an extremely fast pace and find myself never running into problems. Anyways my point being this guy didnt promote anything negative, didnt force anyone to do anything, didnt ask for anything except free subscriptions if you enjoyed the video. Everyone involved in the video is clearly having a great time, not promoting anything or doing anything to leave the environment worse than they came.
